Just Crashed My Car

A good example is that case of the guy in the V6 who recently had that accident in France. He admitted here that he was doing 100mph and there was even a photo posted here to show how far it took him to stop after the accident but he didnt get done for speeding because he kept quiet at the scene!

Eeeeerrrrr, this is true, but remember the French polices English was about as good as my French!

Chris, sorry to here this fella, but at least you walked away, thats what really matters!!! Metal can be repaired or replaced, and yes your gonna get done, but your living an breathing and thats what really counts!

Well at least your ok Chris, and at least no one else was involved.

I have just had a narrow escape in my V6 when some Di*khead came round a corner on a narrow country lane well to fast and half on my side of the road, only my fast reactions stopped my V6 from losing its drivers side and just ended up with a very muddy passenger side and a smashed drivers door mirror.....

Took me ages to find some where to turn this beast around (bloody turning circle) so by the time I had he was long gone....

Over 5 years ago I was convicted of careless driving (driving without due care and attention) and although you were also speeding the only offence you are charged with is careless driving, as it includes all information about that accident. I got 5 points, which was in my first 2 years probationary period so I was lucky. Not quite so lucky was getting 3 points for speeding a couple of months later. License revoked :(

Ahh, the days of the Vauxhall Nova. Long may they be forgotten. Bad and very silly, careless days.

Just read the thread mate, glad youre ok at least. Hope all goes well with the car and stuff. Feeling for ya....

Ouch Mate, only 3rd Party as well. I was lucky with mine - fully comp.

Hope its not too expensive to repair.

As for the Old Bill, what people said is true, never say what speed you were doing. Even if there are blatent skid marks ;) just say you "not sure" what speed you were doing.

Ah well, its done now. Best you can do is stick to the same story and admit it. You maybe lucky as no one was hurt they may not take it further.

Sorry to hear this mate. I know how you feel, police tried to get me for driving without due care and attention after an accident and your just so worried about your licence.

But good news is i dont think youll be done for speeding seperately.

One good tip i can pass on is take up a driving course of your own back as soon as possible. I did a controlling a car in a skid course only a few days after my accident and when they reviewed my case this helped heavly in my favour and was the final straw that swong the case in my favour and meant i got off with nothig.

Only good part of my accident was it was a company car so i didnt care about that at all. :p

as a lot have already said i can only imagine how you must feel, hope everythin gets sorted out quickly and without much stress/loss of licence/points etc

good luck with it all

I crashed last year - lost it around a bend on a country road and also hit someone else. I was on a Careless Driving charge but they decided to put me on a Driver Improvement Course instead. Therefore, I didnt get prosecuted or any points (but I had to pay around 100 quid for the course).

I was very lucky in the crash - turned the car over, all windows smashed and even the driver side door had been ripped off!! (The firemen at the scene were very surprised since this is NOT supposed to happen) I was sore afterwards - no broken bones though. Muscles in my shoulder still arent better yet.

Sorry to hear about that, worth getting it checked out as sometimes they look worse than they are and its amazing what a jig can do.

With regard for the offence you can only be tried for the highest offence i.e they will charge you with driving without due care and attention, which carries 6-9 points and a large fine, they cant then charge you with speeding as well and add them on top only the most serious offence will be counted in totting up, hope that makes sense.

chris

sorry to hear this mate, the fuzz will only do you for the one offence, your actions, be it speed will constitute the recklessness, where there any independent wits?

yeah there were independant witnesses, not sure whether they will be called to court? or whatever. 6-9 points, ouch... :( not good then. My car is getting repaired, 2 grand everything done its gonna cost me.. thats pretty bad. Most of all im worried now about my insurance premium, im assuming with points it will go up quite a bit, im trying to get hold of the guy i hit - i want to pay for his damage, rather than me losing my no claims, cos thats the only thing i wanna keep really.
