just fitted wheel spacers

  182 and cherokee 4.0
as above. i have just put 5mm spacers each side on the back and 10mm each side on the front (not hubcentric :().

i got them lined up as best i can but the steering wheel is wobbling at higher speeds quite a bit.

do i just need to get the wheels balanced or do i need to take them all off and start again?

cheers :)

Take them all off and make sure there is no s**t stuck inbetween the spacer/hub or the spacer/wheel.

It won't affect the balance of the wheel, so will more than likely be an ill-fitted spacer.

Have you put longer bolts in??? If not, the bolts could be working themselves loose and a loose wheel is causing the wobble. Not good.

If the wheels were smooth/balanced before then the problem is the spacer. If you ahve put a 10mm hubcentric spacer on then you WILL 99.9% of the time get wheel wobble/vibration and it's not ideally safe either - there's no centre spigot to centrally locate the wheel. With the out of round wheel creating the wobble you'll stress the hubs and the alloys themselves. You need a proper hubcentric spacer (Eibach do 10mm hubcentrics) and long bolts.

5mm flat spacers are probably ok as long as the centre spigots still protudes enough to locate the wheel properly.

yeah i have longer bolts on the 10mm ones. i will take the front ones off and try them again then. the wheels were balanced before.

has anyone got a similar set up or know how it should affect the handling?

I've ran spacers on my Valver, my Audi A6 and my Xr3i (don't ask).

There should be no difference to wheel balance as long as all the stuff is fitted correctly.

just did them up manually like but a couldn't get them any tighter. most likely to be the fronts that's the problem a guess.

is it really essential to get hubcentrics? will there be any difference in handling with those over the ones av got on now?

I would suggest torquing them up correctly and see if it sorts your problem, i had the same issue so i took off the wheels, cleaned up the mounting faces and re torqued them up, no hassle since.

  182 and cherokee 4.0
how exactly do i torque them up?

the grooved lip is meant to go towards the hub and the flat side to the wheel aye?

wider than what? The 182 cup has a slightly wider track than the non-cup
Ah right I thought they were the same. Thought you were going for the 172 cup track width for some reason!

IMO 10mm spacers or over need to be hubcentric otherwise the wheel is just held on by the bolts and doesn't sit on the hub which makes it a pain to align and is also expecting the bolts to take more load than they were designed too.

I put 5mm spacers all round on mine to match the track of the 172cup and it’s made a noticeable difference to the handling. Its much flatter in the corners and initial turn in is allot better etc.

I'm not sure on the difference in track between the 182 and the 182 cup so I cannot advise you there but it should improve the handling.

Why have you gone for 10mm spacers on the front and 5mm on the back?

basically because i rang k-tec and they told me that was the perfect set-up ha. figured they know better than me so just bought them!

You sure the cup pack has a wider track? IIRC, lower, stiffer, strengthened hubs. But same track.

  182 and cherokee 4.0
will it be ok to stick with the non-hubcentrice ones i got from k-tec if i can get them to sit properly. how will these affect my handling? I should confirm, each spacer is 10mm on the front and each is 5mm on the back.

don't know what to do for the best.

Best bet it to ditch that non-hubcentric junk and get some proper spacers with some proper longer wheelbolts. As already said with 5mm you should be ok as the spigot should still protude a bit to sit the wheel on (you can't get 5mm hubcentric anyway) but Eibach make 10mm hubcentric spacers and you SHOULD run them hubcentric if they're 10mm+ otherwise you won't be locating the wheel properly.

There are arguments that the spigot not only locates the wheel properly but also takes a lot of force from the wheel which without would be just through 4 wheel bolts.

Yea I think it has a wider track. I looked a non-cup 182 and the wheels didn't nearly as well as the cup-packed one. I doubt the 3mm ride height made all the difference!

Just had a look on europerformance.co.uk and it seems they only do 15mm hubcentric for the Clio (must be due to a long spigot or something as I got Eibach 10mm hubcentric for my BMW). Need longer bolts with them with they sell to (Grayston I think). Gonna be about £100 though.

i have 5mm eibach hubcentrick spacers if u would like some. i have them for the 172/182 and the 197. but i only have 4x 5mm this is advertised by eibach as 10mm because the whole track is widend by 10mm.

On 182's I don't think the track is wider between cup/non cups.

172 Cups/Trophys have Turini's which means a wheel offset change to get the wider track over the 172/182 Cups iirc.

ah right, i dunno what to do then as it will look odd with 5mm on the back and 15 on the fronts surely?!

cheers for the offer but i already have 2 5mm ones on the back. i didn't think you could get 5mm hubcentric? :S:)

well they definately r lol as they sit on the 60.1 hub lol no problem. when u look at ebach spacers the tell you how much the whole track will be widend, so 10mm are actualy 5mm spacers and 20mm are 10mm spacers lol it took me ages to click on.

could someone put a link up to the ones i need please? the ones i have at the minute are 10mm each i'm sure (so widened by 2cm).

I put some spacer on mine and converted all my hubs to studs.

So much better. sronger, safer and just easier in general!

I got 8 80mm studs for the front with 2 30mm spacers. 8 50mm studs for the back with 10mm spacers. and 32 12mm nuts for the end of the studs!

Came in total to a price under 100quid!!

Excellent bargains and better than hubcentric ones!

Just fitted 20mm hubcentric "system B" spacers to the front of my 172 :)

They look great and everything was going well - I thought - until I went to drive home

There's a loud banging noise when you are driving, gets louder when you slow down & brake.
Stopped a few times on the way home to take a look for rubbing etc but couldn't see any sign of anything :S
