Iirc, if you use the volume buttons while it's doing an alert sound (text, alarm, call etc.) then the buttons adjust that, so if you get a text when you start your video the buttons adjust the alert volume.
I would test this theory but can't risk the office hearing some weird moaning...

Try having an Android, everytime you turn the volume down when you're not on YouTube or 'watching a video', it turns your ringtone, text etc down. Very annoying.

For me it seems doing volume on the homescren, and in any apps are separate... it's annoying, but if for instance I want them both on the minimum, I'll reduce it on the homepage, then open a random game (they always work) and reduce it there too, then everything's covered.
