Just been down to Renault to get a quote for a cambelt and aux belt change.

Prices are inc VAT & Labour. Plus.. he said a 20% discout.

Valid until 2nd jan.

Ill list what hes printed out, Just incase anyone who knows there stuff can look it over for me please. Also might help anyone whos looking for simular to be done.

Labour total £254

Parts total £161

TOTAL £415, After discout £333.

Does this sound alright.. A fair price?

If so ill book it in before the end date to get the discout.

Cheers :)

Just take it to a non franchise garage, there a piece of piss and you dont need any special tools!

Does a guide exist for the 1.2?

I wouldnt attempt it i dont think, But if its really easy i will try and find a cheaper quote.

Anyone got and good places around the loughton or epping area, Cheers.

I wish i was closer mate, Then i would !

Im still quite a cautious driver so dont travel long trips.

I will still keep you in mind though :)

i Paid £200 from an independant garage back on my 1.2

I think i will get some quotes from independant garages.

Just was worried about finding one with all the renault alignment tools or whatever there called.

If somone knows of one within essex please let me know :)

Its been done by an independant garage. Happy its done. Cost £340.

Sounds ok, A small hint of a rubbing sound but thats because the belts new a tight isnt it?

Now apparently my brakes are "very dangerous" which i dont think they are, The discs are quite low though. Thats booked in for friday *sigh* more money.

I brought the discs and pads myself with intent to fit them myself, Which i still do but my mum dosent want me to lol.

Is £80 a fair price just for fitting of front discs and pads?

Sounds like they are charging 2 hours labour, save the cash, do it yourself and lie to your mum;)

you payed £340 to have your cambelt done on a 1.2 16V AND the belt is making a noise!! and i bet money they didn't change the waterpump either??? (which is a must on that engine) new belts never make a noise unless they've been fitted wrong

you my son have been bent over and gang raped with no lube

It was cambelt kit, Auxbelt kit, He said he would tell me if the waterpump needed doing and he said it didnt.

I dont think ive been gangraped.

Reno wanted 333 but i already booked into the garage so i didnt want to muck him about.

Its not making a noise as such, wish i hadnt said that now.

as mike said, a specialist would be under £200 (INCLUDING A £20 water pump)

give me a shout when the bearing seal fails at around 60,000miles and you need a new water pump (oh and another cambelt kit) been there done that, it will go

The cambelt kit costs 120 is on its own doesnt it?, After the aux belt and alernator belt, And your saying waterpump. How would they only charge 50 ish quid to fit that all?

where does it cost 120 for a 1.2 16V cambelt kit?

Water pump is about 17 quid

I can knock em out in about 45 mins.

Although I have to say where I was working I used to do jobs then get pulle doff them to and I quote 'f**k about' as I was working to fast and the customers kicked up a fuss as they were charged book times and sometimes more for the jobs and I was doing them a lot quicker.

Got thousands of homers through it and thats part of the reason I got the boot

I thought i read somewhere it was about 120 quid.

How much do they cost? (air-con)

I am pissed off now !!!

And how much do you think a good garage would charge to fit brake discs and pads (i supply the parts) ?

I want to fit them myself. Might just do it.

cambelt kit and water pump I got for a 1.2 16V I done about 4 months back was just under 90 quid

too much do the jobs yourself its extremely easy

genuine cambelt kit is £90, a QH one is about £50
genuine water pump is £50, QH is about £20

an aux belt is about £12

2hours labour MAX

Brakes where fitted today, Feels so much better to drive now there a little bit bedded in.

Also said i wasnt happy with the belt, Not sure what he did probably retentioned it, But its not making any sounds now and feels good.

I did one for another garage the other day, old guy who doesnt do cambelts, he supplied the parts. £70 labour, didnt do the pump, just did as i was told!

From memory, a contitech cambelt kit and aux belt were about £70 in total.

As said local garage will be cheaper, i was quoted £330 from renault and paid £220 at a local garage, worth shopping around.
