just purchases a FF 182 and need some cam belt help

  Clio 182
Hi Guys,

i am new so please be gentle haha

i recently purchased a lovely 05 Full Fat 182 and i just need some help in regards to it,

Number Plate L9 SPW in case the previous owner is on here,

the car is on 74,000 miles and has no guarantee the cam belt has been done,

i am going to book it in as soon as to get cam belt done and have been quoted at about £450.00 does this seem reasonable?

also whilst having cam belt done is there anything else i should definitely be doing at same time?

i have seen on this forum people get Cam belt Aux Belt Dephasor Pulley and Water Pump done but i didn't know if it needed all doing at same time?

the mechanic i use has recommended getting the cam belt done and whilst in there seeing if anything else needs doing, although he said the water pump is external?

i am very confused and was just hoping someone would be helpful and clear things up

Thanks in advance guys

Joe

It is heavily advised on here to use a specialist for belt changes. Lots of bad stories from people who haven't.

Hi Dan,

Is that all labour included? Just to confirm is that timing belt, aux belt and dephasor?? How much would it be for water pump on top or is that not essential?
Sorry I'm a complete newbie to clio sports and am after full peace of mind on it.

cheers in advance

Go to Dan. From what i witnessed on a 172 recently where the water pump bearing collapsed i would do the pump aswell. Aux belt came off and went into the cambelt, smashed all the valves.

Water pump bearing was totalled, you could move the pulley up, down left and right lol. Was on 60k.

This, mine failed around 3months after dephaser/timing @ around 70k- showed no signs of any problems when job was done.

Hit and a miss, no ones going to 'gaurentee' it will be fine.

(For the cost of a pump, compared to labour/parts if it failed later I'd personally choose just to do it- wish I had lol)
