Bet it was like most mk1 clios that did this, like mine... its caused by the engine and gearbox moving slightly when turning right and the gearbox mount rubs on the bend in the exhaust. If you ever got the car up on a lift youd see. Drove me nuts for a year, thought the axle was gonna snap or something. Bent the exhaust away from it slightly, cured.
