Just turned 40,000 in my 197

  Clio 1970000000
Saying that I have only done 2000 miles in it, and great fun they have been too. Anyone else done this sort of mileage in their 197? All the cars for sale seem to have 20k on them.

Personally I don't mind the higher mileage. It means the engine has been properly warmed up and used. Low mileage isn't always better.

Nov 2006 (Seb's old car). Personally I don't give a sh1t what a RR session would tell me, I go by my gut feeling driving the car. When I used to drive a CTR and went to regular meets, there were cars with air filter, exhaust and remap pushing 220-230bhp that my standard car could still take depending on who gets on the power first, right gear etc. It's all about the driver IMO.

Saying that, I am curious to see what it would make ;)

I sold my LY on 30k and i would say it was probably the strongest 1*2 you wouldve found for all its sins of being hardely used! The gearbox was as good as new, the interior was as new and there was no rattles what so ever!

Low milage isnt everything as you say but it does help in most cases if well cared for whilst hardely being used i.e services still being done on the dot rather than left becuase of lack of use.

That is defiantly the most sense i have read on here.

mine is now on 43000 and it drives better now than when I bought it at 38k. I think the previous owner didn't really drive it how its intended to be driven. When I picked it up it had 32mpg on the trip computer... lol.

When I bought it i was disappointed, I really did miss my 172. The straight line performance just didn't seem as brutal on cam. But after putting my yozza exhaust on and doing some spirited driving it really has loosened up nicely and is definitely as quick if not quicker.

I am loving the car. It still feels tight, the gearbox is slick (I haven't had any third gear problems others have posted) and I don't think that mileage has done the car any harm at all. All the servicing has been done (I'm sure Seb looked after it very well :approve:) and I can't wait for the weather to improve so I can give a good run with the windows down.

I am also seriously think of doing a track day at some point.

How old is it mate?

Dont get it rolling roaded whatever you do

Lol why not?

surely it must be running 250bhp now its run in? but if you do get it roling roaded mate make sure you ask the operator to give you a reading you like since that just good business.

Mine had done circa 40k whan i sold it. Same as yours, gearbox was a peach still, and the engine loved to be revved!!! Shame i sold it really, but all helps to the house fund i suppose :(

The house (should) go up in value and the car won't. Feel for you and you will have both the house and the car you want some day :D. Sold my CTR to extend the kitchen and here I am back in another hot hatch. Just took a few years but that's kids adding to the bill.

It will feel even better with another 10k miles on it. I remember Steve Sutcliffe (autocar) being asked a question about when an engine is at its best and he replied after 2 years and 20k miles.

As I said earlier, you would never know that my car had done 40k miles if you didn't see the dash.

Your nimbus is a weapon, mainly because it was a hero's car.

Btw before I went on holiday I was at my parents and found the keycard I thought I had lost. I'll send it in the post when I get back from holiday. So prob end of next week.

You'll have the best nimbus 197 in the country (I have the trophy to prove it lol) and the only 197 in the country to have 3 keycards. Lol

Got mine at 9k. From about 15/16k onwards it's felt a lot better and been much better economy wise.

all good things to come then :D. To be honest iv only done one or two little trips so far. Not had much chance to really drive it :(. but it does feel good, but all the ones I drove were on similar mileage so I'll have to see how it loosens up. I have been suprised on the economy, went from sheffield to chesterfield on sunday and got 33mpg. Although so far I have seen it at 17mpg, and I wasnt going all that hard ;)

cant say its worrying me at all, it always feels better!

Forget economy owning a 197. My computer has me at 23mpg and 25mpg (can't work out which one is which when resetting the trip meter).

Fun miles all the way :race:
