K&N Induction Kit - Suggestions

  Bye Bye 182....
Im thinking of buying a K&N induction kit for the 182 but my mate seems to think that Renault have the engine balance right and it could actually reduce the power :S !!!

Is this

1. True
2. Likely to happen and
3. Would I get any advantages to it over say a panel filter.

LOL a 200£ viper will most likely loose you power too. Best bet unless your planning on doing other mods is an ITG pannel filter.Failing that a maxogen.

i take it your talking about the 57i kit, which is an open cone filter, there lies the problem. the 172/182 has very little space in the engine bay & as this is an open filter you'll be sucking in hot air not the desired cold air. i.e. lossing power. save up & get a good quality induction kit or just get an itg panel filter m8!

  Bye Bye 182....
Thanks for that guys. Last thing I want to do is buy something to lose power! Is this ITG pannel filter a direct replacement and if so how much and where from? Cheers

Will the panel filter invalidate the renault warranty or anything like that? Also will I notice a difference in the cars performance / mpg as im told that if you change the air filter etc that I should get better mpg? How much of this is true im not sure as im not a mechanic.

No it won't invalidate your warranty and alone I doubt it will make any differance to your mpg eor performance.

Is there any real point to it then if it wont make any difference?

Yes if you plan further mods.

such as? The only other thiung im planning is a custom exhaust as after that you get into silly money and I might as well go an buy an evo or something!

There's very little point spending money on IK's and/or exahasts unless you merely want them for show/noise OR you intended to have some engine/breathing work done.

As for silly money £2k spent @ GDI/Yozzasport will get you one hell of a decent 182. If you want an Evo then get an Evo.

No dont want an evo just saying that I havent got a lot of spare cash so really just panel filter and exhaust would be the most I went for in the tuning department

Both mods will be fine and the combination of the panel filter and exhaust will give the car a nice sound. All I meant was don't expect these mystical "+ 5bhp" figures that you see floating about.

182's much nicer than an Evo anyway ;)

Yeah no im not after massive power gains just a nice rumble. Any recommendations on the zorst? Also will the panel filter give it the rumble type effect im after?

You could ultimately spend 1000's! I've got K-tec stealth zorst, decat, inlets, Maxogen and a remap. Should see me to the mid 185's at the end of the day.

Buy a nice sounding zorst and that'll do!

any recommendations from experience? The blue flame exhaust seems to be what most people go for. Any idea of price or where I can find a pic?

A 20 degree increase in temperature of the intake air will lose 3% power. The manufacturers air box is far from perfect, but usually the filter is the restricting factor. I am considering buying a K&N intake, and then building my own carbon box for it to go in. Main problem is space.

But the balance of the K&N is that, the air temperature of an open cone doesn't increase that much, but the actual mass of air does, so it balances it out usually (unless your current air box is good to start with).

Besides, as most people will tell you, without mapping the fuel to take advantage of more air, the only thing it changes is the noise.

i put my car on the rollers last sat and it has a 57i on it and it made 176.4bhp at the fly so it is bullshit the 57i does not make your car lose break the only thing i found it does is make you mpg go s**t

Think you'll find the rollers we're actually "bullsh*t". Take your car to another rolling road on the same day and you'd get a completely different result.

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
viper doesnt lose power, panel filter is ok, but otherwise as said closed induction kit viper or maxogen pending on the depth of your pockets, whatever you choose gains will be very small. as for exhaust where you from? best to go custom as the fit is best, use the 'search' for exhausts/tailpipe options etc

i got a mk 1 172 and stuck a green induction kit. best thing i ever did. defo no loss in power that i can notice and worth every penny for the sound it makes. only bought it for the sound tho not as if an air filter makes any real difference in performance.

Maxogen is the only IK I would consider buying but only if I found one that had fallen off the back of a lorry!
