K&N or Standard airbox with filter

I have a williams 1, and currently chipped, Full Magnex exhaust, decat with a K&N induction kit.

When i had it RR last year was told the K&N was taking power away, have since fitted a new cold air feed blowing onto the filter. But have read on here that the original air box (with new filter) would be better. What are the gains of either? Or would there not be much difference appart from the noise. I do like the sucking noise over 5,000 rpm. suppose that would be lost with the original airbox???

Any info would be helpfull.

Rich.

yup will be lost but its hell of a lot faster with std airbox

go put in on and do a road test but that ind kit noise is mental and addictive but its sappig at least 5 bhp and possibly even more in summer months

car will feel loads faster as its will be only getting cold air

Why not drill a couple of holes in the standard airbox in a select place away from heat, or a place where you can easily shield it from heat and direct a cold air feed to it - therefore creating a small cold air chamber for the engine to utilise. On the Cup the standard airbox shields my mods from engine heat, add to that the cold air feed - and ive got great noise as well as some gains.

Change the panel filter for a performance one and youll see gains rather than losses. You will also get the induction roar youre after (you dont need loads of holes to get this - just a couple of 2 inch diameter onesll do it) - and the noise is more subtle than a K&N as it enhances rather than completely changes the noise.

standark airbox defo, but iv got a pipercross on at the min and as its still freezing its not made much difference, cos i wanted the induction noise!

Ive been wondering this about my 16v which came with a K&N on it. Are the BMC CDAs any better, or is the best thing still the original airbox?
