K-Tec big disks

  Clio Mk1 Hybrid

I fitted a set of these today. Look really good behind my 17s and the braking performance is damn good.:)

But, what a nightmare to fit.

First of all, the screws holding the disks on rounded off, so I had to drill them out and replace them.

Then the bolts holding the caliper carriers on wouldnt budge, but after a lot of WD-40, hitting the spanner with a hammer and swearing, they finally came off.

At one point I did wonder if I would get it all done!

I think Ill get the garage to done them next time.

I also fitted an aerial off a 206, looks much better than the one that was on there before.

All Ive got to do now, is fit the new rear brakes, brake hoses, bushes, suspension, alternator, starter motor, rocker cover gasket, strut brace, exhaust mountings, wipers, pedals, new fog lights, headlight bulbs, auxiliary belt. and leather interior.

Looks like I going to be busy for the next few weeks:)

They cost me £273.78 in total. That included £8.00 P&P and £40.78 VAT.

I should think that they would fit inside 15s as they are 285mm wide and the big disk conversion from Rally Design which are 285mm (they dont do these any more!) require a minimun of 15s to fit.

The kit includes the zinc coated drilled disks, pads and new caliper carriers with extensions to fit to the hub.

yea, and you get some lovely looking brakes behind ya wheels - which not only look good, but stop ya pretty well too I would imagine!

Bargain!

Ive only done about 15 miles on them so far, but I can already notice the difference. Im sure after a couple of hundred, they will stop the car very well.

Fairly easy.

The problems on mine stem from the brakes having had no maintenance whatsoever for a number of years.

The pads had about 2mm left and the disks looked like they had been on their at least 5 years.

Once I had done one side, the other side was fairly straight forward.

Just be careful with the screws that hold the disks on. Mine wouldnt budge and I ended up chewing up the heads with the torx bit. Fortunately, I was able to drill them out without too much trouble.

When I spoke to the guy at Rally Design, he said that they stopped selling them last year and that they shouldnt have been listed in this years brochure. He didnt tell me why.

He did say that they may be bringing out a Wilwood kit for the 16v/Williams at some point, but he couldnt give me a definate yes or no or a timescale.

I think that the Rally Design disks were a softer metal than the K-Tec ones and wouldnt last as long.

Yeah get some pics James, till we see what they look like. These disc retaining screws never come off, not a big deal to run without them, just be sure wheel nuts are tight.
