K Tec Carbon Fibre Splitter - Is it really made of CF ?

Sorry if this sounds silly, but i'm clueless about Carbon Fibre.

I bought i Carbon Fibre Splitter for my 172 from K Tec a few months back now (had to order it though- it was out of stock) http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=308017

I was wandering are they really made from Carbon Fibre ?

As it looked like it was made from fibreglass when you look at the inside of it :S

Or am i wrong ?

its not structural carbon, its a decorative piece, so clear gel coat (for a smooth shiny finish) 1 ply of carbon backed with fibreglass

i think same goes for their carbon engin covers!

i have carbon firbe number plates and i can tell they are real carbon compared to the ktec stuff!

my carbon engine cover was pure carbon weave with a layer of laquer on the top :) dont think it was a ktec one tho

Where did you get that from ?

And aint they a rip off for an engine cover ?

Especially as no one sees it when the bonnets shut :(

i got hold of mine for 60 quid of a cs member a few years ago, was a really nice addition to the engine bay, especially for shows, sold it on for the same price i bought it for when i changed my engine bay lay out :D

they are a lot of money new though

i prefer the standard, but the KTR CF one easier to get hold of and better value for money.

However if it was real CF would it not be loads more expensive??

defo looks best on iceberg.

i nearly got one after mine got minceed by a fox, but went standard again

Agree with you there mate, thats why i got mine ;)

No fox encounters though :rasp: , just a few stonechips is all i have on mine :(

Just been notified someone on the recent group-buy has a few marks on their K-Tec CF splitter.

I had a ganzy at mine today and there are a few slight marks where the weave doesnt cover the whole of the splitter towards the upper edge.

Are they all like this anyway or do we have cause for concern?
We waited long enough for a start! Some are still waiting too.

fit it you poof. its gonna look alot worse after a few months of stone chips. anyway...who actually gets on their knees to look at the weave on it anyway?

i really tried to no be cheeky...but you know how it is!

dont think so, sport one wont fit obv, diff bumper. but no harm having a look on ktec...where those above are from.

Oh these things do love the stones, as said above, i wouldnt worry to much about a little bit of weave outta place, you wont notice it when its been up & down the motorway a few times, wish i could of prevented it though :(
