K-Tec ECU

  Audi S1
I was wondering how impressed people were with there K-tec ECU and isit worth the £300.

I've just booked in my Cam belt and AUX belt also going to get an air panel fitted. Totals out to be £450.

Ive already got a Magnex full system on my car n some decent alloys, My next MOD's will be a Viper induction kit i think, then i was thinking this ECU....i no they modify the ECU to your mods so is there anything else i should consider before getting this ECU???

:boring:

Have heard the viper kits are worse than the standard airbox with just a pannel filter so may be worth just doing the pannel filter & saving £100, haven't tried a k-tec map but rstunners group n for half the cost gave me good results

i got reccomended the air panel.... what are the benfits.... cooler air there for better performance?

I fought Viper induction kits were the best for the 172? no

ITG Maxogen is supposed to be the best induction sytem but with a £350 price tag & really only offering 3-5 hp it is a touch pricey, i would love one but cant justifiy a new one, would be tempted for a second hand one though :approve:

when i spoke to K-tec, they said they have an alternative so the ITG panel filter... there own one, which is £20 cheaper and same benifits...does that sound right?

Here are a few emails we have had from customers who have had the remap:

Dear Mr. Kirk,

I would like to thank you for your help regarding my ecu reflash and the Pipercross filter. I am pleasantly surprised with the result. My room mate has the same car and there is quite a noticeable difference in performance. The mid range pull is a lot smoother and stronger than previous, and you no longer need to drive the hell out of it to get a decent level of pace.

Thank you very much for your time and help. Everything is working fine, ac, traction control, cruise control and speed limiter.

I look forward to purcahsing more quality products from K TEC RACING in the not too distant future.

Hi Dave

Just thought I'd give you a quick report on the re-map for your info.
I took the car for a proper test drive last night and I have to say,
if you hadn't told me about the re-map I"d be phoning you up to ask
what had been done. You couldn't not notice it, apart from the extra
shove the most noticable difference is the change in the 5K kick, it
seems to be a bit lower in the rev range and more gradual rather than
an on-off switch, it feels more like a turbo spooling up now. The
response is much improved, before you could tap the throttle very
quickly and it wouldn't rev at all, now it's almost impossible to
touch the throttle without blipping the revs. It picks up more
quickly now, if you pull away in second gear, it starts to pull hard
quite a bit sooner (around 2500rpm rather than 3000rpm off the top of
my head) and before you could get caught between gears out of a
corner and it would feel bogged down but you can leave it in third
and concentrate on the turn in and it steams out from the apex, it's
like having a closer ratio box! All in all, a very worthy
modification.

Hello Sean/Shaun

Having now recovered from a 6 hour round trip – My wife and I visited you on Saturday morning for a re-map to our Clio Cup – I wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know how pleased we are with the ECU upgrade that has been fitted to the car. Taking into consideration the fact that the engine is N/A, I was expecting a subtle improvement to both performance and torque. Needless to say, the actual on-road difference is markedly different. In my (humble) opinion, 2nd gear on the 172 has always been a bit of weak sport, (the required change up to 3rd gear often coming at an inopportune time). With the increased RPM and torque 70 mph in 2nd gear is now easily attainable (Naturally, I have not taken the car above 70mph because this involve breaking the national speed limit…). I would recommend the group N tune to anyone looking to improve the performance of their Clio. Feel free to use this as a testimonial for future potential customers if you wish.

No doubt we will be heading down to Dorset at some point in the future.
