Such a shame they never officially released the RS16

That does look good. Renault did release a similar body kit I believe. Don't know if anyone has ripped it off yet.

It's the genuine RS Performance RS16 body kit, and yes agreed needs Turinis! The original concept Clio RS16 had the Megane 275 19" ones fitted and looked well for it

I don’t know how that can be possible as I’ve only seen 2 mk4s on the road!

Well depends on if you're talking about the Mk4 in general or just the RS version.

cos I'm not saying the Mk4 Clio is a bad car, but the RS was a let down.

Yeah, I kind of liked the looks but it needed 240bhp as standard to make it appeal to me. I might buy one in 20 years.

The biggest problem is the Trophy, not that the Trophy is bad, it's decent.
The problem is the Trophy IS the car the Mk4 should have been all along, the gearbox isn't a useless piece of s**t, the engine has decent power.

If they'd released that as the Mk4 RS off the bat people would have lapped it up, instead it got a lukewarm response and the Trophy was punted out to try and address the problems.

I believe the 4rs sold very well in Europe but not so well in the UK, possible why the figures may be high but not often seen here.

I really do enjoy MK4 ownership, it is a very very good chaises (Best I've driven) but perhaps the engine is a little bland (Coming from the f4r) renualt admitted they did not have enough time with the EDC 200 to tweak the engine, it arrived from Nissan in a crate and they spent what time they had just making it fit. Even with the tweaks on the trophy it still falls short in that department in my opinion, how much of that is down to that specific unit or the fact it is turbo I do not know.

I have a feeling the Alpine has alot to answer for some of the shortfalls of the mk4 and maybe it's demise, we know the focus was shifted for the production and believe this was one of the reasons the RS16 did not happen. Now we know due to emissions and costing it's unlikely we will see another, it will be interesting to see if this same approach extends to the future Megane and Alpine models.

you think so? After 12 RS Clio's, every one since the ph1 172 (excluding the V6 and original 200 EDC) I thought the 220 Trophy was light years ahead of them all, enjoyed it more than any of them hands down, the only car I properly miss tbh!

Therein lies the problem, the Trophy was a decent car.
Unfortunately the Trophy was the car that the Mk4 should have been all along, instead it ended up being the Mk4 with most of the problems ironed out.

The cynic in me says it’s not about getting it right first time.
It’s getting it to market, then providing an evolution or reason to upgrade / buy.

There's no denying they dropped a bollock with it though, everyone complained about the gearbox. Not only was it s**t on the 200 but their mistake was compounded by the lack of a manual option.

As we've seen there is no Mk5 RS and you've not heard a great number of people complaining, it seems with plenty of other options the customers went elsewhere.

Everyone complained about it because they don't like change, it was too much change at once, turbo over NA, 5 door over 3 door, auto over manual

I get reminded on Facebook memories every year around about the launch date of how outraged I was and how I would never swap my 200 for a 5 door auto heap! I, like most wrote it off without driving it (partly due to how hard dealers made it to actually drive on!)

the game has moved on massively, the last generation Fiesta ST was all the rage for years, it was all you heard people talk about, you never hear of the latest one and I'm sure if it was discontinued it wouldn't be missed either.

The gearbox wouldn't stop me buying a Mk4 and I drive a manual 4 series!! I always think back on my go in a Mk4 on Brands fondly, such a capable car and then it could do daily duties with 4 doors and an auto box (admittedly not the best auto box by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't think it'd detract from the driving experience once you've driven it for more than an hour).

Erm, the latest ST is massively well-regarded...like...massively. It took a bit of time for the MK7 to become as common as it ended up being.

You are right though, there were a lot of changes when it came to the MK4 Clio. If they'd offered a manual, it probably would have been really successful. It was a bit of a let down in that respect. I liked one generally when I drove it, but the gearbox was a bit of a weak point, and the car had lost some of the racy feeling you found in earlier models. Would still like to spend some time in a Trophy.

If course I've heard of it, and driven one but very rarely do you hear of it mentioned much, I remember on here there was about 100 of the previous ones, every forum you went to people were getting them, but these days everyone just seems to speak about m140, A45, focus, Mégane, golf, civic etc

Possibly the cheaper PCP deals on the more prestigious cars is making them better value so the small hatches are now no longer good value?

Also you've probably grown up abit, and no longer hanging around with young kids tearing around in Fiestas ;)

The cheap finance deals have gone though, Ford were well know for doing awesome deals on ST's, which is why they became ubiquitous.
Car sales across the industry have slumped massively from the peak a few years back, no great surprise tho, that level couldn't be maintained forever.

The lease/finance market bubble has definitely burst, long gone are the days of getting a Golf R for £250 a month. Now some people are stuck, as proven by some people here as they can't get another good deal.

The used market has now become saturated with the ex lease cars and the prices have tumbled. Golf R's and M135i's for 13/14k. I was looking at the MK6 R yesterday and your looking at 12/13k for one, not much more and you can have a MK7.
