key fob not locking/setting alarm

Its been getting harder to make the fob work, fitted a new battery and I can see the red light coming on, so I guess its something on the car not working, where do I look?, thanks.

there is a receiver unit, could be this, although ive noticed that the range is getting less with age... you could try re programming the keys and receiver
