key fob range

  2001 Clio 1.2 Dynamique
Just something thats been annoying me. both my keys have rubbish range. The car is 2001, and i have replaced both batteries and still no better. My mate can unlock his clio from his bedroom window, a good 10 metres away. Coincidentally i recently found my sisters bofriends old key from his 05 clio which he has now sold. Dont wanna pay renaul stupid money to reprogramme my key, does anyone know if that reprogramming trick on ebay works, anyone know it???

you have to have 2 keys in the first place. Buy a 3rd then program it.
keyfob activation distance can vary due to conditions and also, they are shite if abused. as fubar says. it does work better if you hold it to your head

Go to the car, press and hold your key fob for (i think it's 5 secs) then try unlocking/locking the car. Walk away and see if it's extended the range.

mine had decent range until it started working intermittently about 2 hours ago. new battery as well. ffs.

mines a right rubbish range as well, my mate has an 07 punto and he can unlock his from the other end of the supermarket carpark, i have to wait till i can basically touch it!

just tried the hold for 5 seconds thing and no luck. The holding next to head thing didnt work for me either. it ridiculous, more than 1 step away and it doesnt work. Anyone know that ebay secret then???

Holding it to the head only works for radio fobs, whereas as far as im aware the clios are all infa red, which require line of sight. My range is poor as well, at most 1 metre, its a bit pointless having it tbh

i'd just be grateful the f*cker works; it's not as if you can get in from 10m or anything..

lol this is true, but it would make me feel better, i still wanna know how to reprogramme it. I asked other peepl on ebay if it has worked for them, wil wait for reply.

It might be the receiver on the car as well.

I enquired about a new key and was told only Renault could do it for you.

  It's A Reno
I've always believed that the limited range is a good thing.
It means that you can't accidentally reopen your car half way accross a carpark, when you stick your keys in your pocket.

Limited range is a god send. So many times I have gone out to my car to find it open because i have caught the buton in my pocket in the house!

Every car i've ever had locks it's self after about 30 seconds if i don't open the doors after pressing the key fob.

FFS you lazy lot,why do you want to open the door miles away? in the days before fobs you actually had to put the key in the door!!and that was really hard.
