Keyless entry & start CR*P

  Merc
Was it me or is it the French's fault? Right this morning I went all merry to start up the car to go to work. From the distance I usually press the remote it didn't work and the car didn't open. So I took out the key from the keycard and opened the door fearing the battery was dead. I put the card on the slot press the push to start and it starts...

All is good until I reach work. Park, turn engine off and press the button on the side to close the central locking as the remote wasn't working. It didn't close! Press the one on the boot, still doesn't work. So I closed the door with the key but the passenger door stays open and there was no way of closing it as it has no key slot nor does it have a lock on the inside... Had to leave the car open ffs. Good thing I work in a military camp and was parked in a safe place.

Is this a serious design fault? Am I being a total daft cnut? Or is it my car?

Btw it was the keycard battery which I have now replaced.

TL;DR keycard doesn't work, couldn't close car, and throw a hissy fit lol.

Yup there is a dealer 5mins from me, actually everything in Gibraltar is 5mins away lol.

It was the battery on the keycard that went but there should/must be a way to close the car surely. Hopefully someone can shed some light or state something obvious that im missing.

They auto-lock mate, no need to worry. Keep an eye on the car for 15-20mins and you will hear it "click" as it locks itself after inactivity if all the doors are sealed.

I dont think it sets the alarm mind, but it deffinately locks itself. Its caught me out a couple of times when ive unlocked the car to wash it and by the time ive got around to doing the door shuts its locked itself again :approve:

^^Pretty sure that only happens if you don't open a door after unlocking it. That's how it worked on my 182 anyway.

Sargara: mine doesn't auto-lock when I leave it open, as when I went back it was still open.

Also a colleague of mine has a renault with keyless entry & start and when he walks away from his car it locks and the mirrors close on their own automatically, mine doesn't do this and I suppose it should? Nor does it open when I get near without pressing the keycard or putting the fingers (sounds dirty) through the handle.

If this is not the norm I suppose there could be a faulty or missing fuse. Wouldn't suprise me as I bought the car from Renault in Spain.

I usually press the button on the door to lock mine, doesn't fold the mirrors in though, didn't think the clios had this?

I do too, but seeing my colleagues car do it I thought that the keyless system Renault use would be the same across the entire range of Renault. Obviously I was wrong lol. The mirrors though if I fold them manually when I press the keycard to unlock the car, they open, suppose yours does that?

Anywho it should auto-lock if yours does. Might have to look into it.

The passenger door hasn't got a key slot. I haven't read the handbook tbh, more so because it's in Spanish. Although I read and write in Spanish I'd wrather read it in English, easier to understand for me.

My Colleague has a megane so I assume you are right, cheers for clearing that part :)

Oh is that why its doing it? Hmmm how about enabling auto-lock and pushing your car around the carpark until it gathers enough movement to trigger the car to lock itself? Worth a try ;)

Sorry i cant help anymore, im a 200 Cup peasent so this keyless entry stuff is just one extra headache i dont have to contend with :)

Mine has done this a few times now ! the key card seems to like eating the power out of the battery !!

Im thinking of getting a pack of CR2025 batteries and leaving them in the glove box just incase. Would be a smart option, but what a design flaw by the french!
