knocking coming from rear

Hi all

Hopefully this isnt a big issue however the car has developed a fairly loud clunking/knocking noise from the rear when braking at slow speeds

At first I thought it was the driveshaft but now it's louder it's certainly coming from the rear.

I can't hear any usual bearing noise under normal driving either

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

sounds like something lose on the brakes, id take the wheels off and do a tighten up, or take it to a brake specialist or tire shop

Does the knocking increase/decrease as you are slowing on the brakes? I had a rear end knock when braking and it was one of the rear calipers partially seized so it wasn't applying even braking pressure on the disk causing it to knock, since I have removed and freed off the calipers it has been fine

Check your wheel nuts are tightened. I had the same problem, at first I thought I was running on a flat but the tyres were fine so I took it to a garage and it turned out to just be a loose wheel nut.

Yeah it slows with speed, usually only does it braking lightly from about 20mph, if i'm braking hard then its fine.

Yep mine was the same I would really notice it if I was braking lightly coming up to traffic lights it would be knocking in time with road speed but as I said I removed and unstuck the caliper on the side affected and it has been fine ever since.
Is yours a 172 cup? Mine is and I always thought that was why it stuck as the rear brakes do very little on the cup

Yep sounds exactly the same notice it when coming upto junctions or traffic lights slowly

Na Ph1 but still the rear brakes do so little anyway. They need replacing anyway so along with some axle spacers i'll clean and grease them at the end of the month all in one shot.

Glad I e seen this! Got same problem with mine. Knocking when rolling slowly and braking. Seems to go when above 20mph.
