Knocking from my 172 clio HELP!

Hi all have just bought a clio v6 salvage.

Now just found out i've got some knocking from my 172.

It seems to come from the gear box area poss driveshaft, it gets loader and faster when i increase speed. That makes me think driveshaft.

There is two quieter knocks then one loader, continuous

CAN ANYONE HELP??

Continious could well be the bearing.
Diff might be going in the box there a few potention problems. Particualy if the 172 is a crash repair.

seems silly, but caught me out the other day, my mates cooper S, knocking noise under harder accelration, was convinced it was driveshaft... turned out to be loose wheel nuts, check the obvious first mate!

My172 also has a knocking rattle when powering around long sweeping corners at speed! - exhaust / heat sheild???

Heat shield or whole exhaust most likly.

Thanks gents for the replies, it is def coming from the gearbox. It was a crash repair. Its had a new box put in bout hr ago, i havne't crunched it at all.

The knocking is getting louder now, it only knocks when accelerating. Seems like its the driveshaft to me. Going to get one and try it.

O and a tryed the wheel nuts first, has that before too.
Anyone else?

m8, its probably the engine mounts the main one being the wishbone mount under the car just near the gearbox.

had a bad banging noise under hard accelration and pulling away fast in first and second and once i replaced it it was fine, got one from reno for about 20 quid, or you can get an uprated ones from ktec for 40 quid maybe cheaper with discount. You may need to replace all the mounts as well or adjust them there was a guide on here but i dont remeber where it was.

how much does the engine move , put the hand brake on, in 1st and lift the clutch slightly get a mate to do this while you look on how much and where from the engine is moving.
a loud knocking when accelerating is more than likley the lower dog bone engine mount
