Knocking Noise

  R26
Hi guys,

Been trying to fix a fault on my car and so far ive replaced all the engine mounts and front suspension top mounts but ive still got the problem. Its more noticeable in lower gears going forward and its now got very loud going in reverse just when you get to the biting point.

Heres a video, its only short but you can hear the knocking

Anyone have any suggestions? Its driving me nuts now lol

Thanks

Jacko

jack up the drivers side front wheel, hold the wheel at the 9 and 3 o clock positions, and try to feel for play, there should be a tiny bit of play, but i mean tiny. if there is play theres two balljoints to check, ones the bottom one on the wishbone, the second is the track rod end, on the end of the steering rack. if you grab it at the 6 and 12 positions and check for play there thats how you tell top mounts have worn.

Will take it back to the garage that fitted the last mount and ask him to have another look at the balljoints.

Thanks for your help.

Just had a go, can feel it rocking a fair bit on the track rod end at 9 and 3, more than it should be i think.

there you go then, order the bit off the bay or unipart, then fit youself, then just pay someone to track it up

check the other side, if both sides have play then do both, if just the one side then just that.

Right, ive now changed both track rod ends and its still there although not as bad!

There is no play in the bottom ball joints at all so what else could it be?

Thanks
