Knocking noise

Hello folks,

when I go over any bumps I get a horrible knocking from the passenger rear suspension.
i have just spent an hour or so inspecting and making sure all bolts at the rear end are snug. All seems good except from the rear damper passenger side, it is covered in oil/dirt. Springs are in one piece and when I push down on the rear end I believe I can bottom out the suspension with a knocking noise to boot.

Any ideas? New parts where to buy them?

Have you checked the backbox isn't knocking off the heat shield?

If your rear dampers are screwed the back end normally skips and jumps over bumps,
plus it tends to step out a lot easier round corners.

I have given the back box a good shake and no signs of a knock.
Last night a sweeping right hander at speed and the back end jumped a bit, knocks worse than it did yesterday now.

Have you got the tools to take the rear dampers off and have a good look at them?

Sounds like they're failing/leaking, i'd take them off and compress them by hand to see if they're knackered,
if they are it's a phone call to Renault for some new ones.

When mine went the back end would jump around on the slightest bump,
when I swapped them over the rears were seized solid and could not be compressed at all.

I do yes, just don't have the time today unfortunately.

I do thing the passenger side one is leaking, it's sodden in something oil.

Do you know what sort of price they are? Should I get the cup ones?

Not to sure on price tbh, but i've had 182cup dampers on my 172 for years.

Still not got round to sorting these yet. Just to clarify, the knock I get on the rear passenger side is a hard thud when I go over potholes or speedbumps. I have done a visual I inspection and ensured all nuts and bolts on the back end are solid, both sides.

does this still suggest a shot damper as it is caked in oily dirt and I can't think what else it could be???
