knocking rear end 2 days after 40mm on apex any idea's???/

Car  Clio 172 MK2
Right this is my problem,

I have just fitted 40mm apex springs to my 172 ph2. All seemed fine friday for the 12 mile ride home and also went shopping that night with no problems.

BUT i went out before and if i turned right i would get a knock when i straightened up. Then a bit further i noticed if a speed bump is aggresive enough when the back wheels hit it i get a knock!!!

Seems to be the passenger side

I have taken the heat sheild off and it still does it

Wheel nuts are tight

Springs are in cups ok

Rear exhaust bracket replaced 6 months ago

seems to be no shock leaks

if i bounce on rear of car i get nothing its just when driving!!!

I also have k-tec stealth

Any ideas people?????

thanks in advance

Is it bouncy when driving on the back end
when the rear shocks are fubared they dont always appear to be leaking as they may have leaked an been knackered for a long time
id take one off as it only takes 5 mins and give them a test to see if there is any resistance either way

Ermmmmm

Its a lot stiffer because of the 40mm drop but bouncy i dont know i suppose yeah maybe.

It never knocked before fitting the springs, it would go over speed humps without a problem.

Sounds like the exhaust hitting off the rear axle over speedbumps. New bracket 6 months ago means nothing they sag instantly as soon as you put a k-tec stealth into them. Have you done the "socket fix" on the exhaust mount?

I have wobbled the exhaust really hard and it wont touch the rear axle, it looks miles away from there!!! It hits the boot floor if anything!!

Really annoying at the mo!!

Was on a high because the car looks super sweet now, then hearing bang/knock im not happy!!

its not the exhaust wobbling. its the rear cross member rising up over bumps etc and hitting the exhaust. just adjust the exhaust so its higher from the cross member.

I have just done the "socket fix" just incase, i took car out and it done it again on a speed bump!!

I might have to buy x2 new shocks.......

I see what you mean about cross member rising up BUT surely this wouldnt happen by just turning a corner etc

Can guarantee it's the exhaust knocking on the rear beam. Get some jubilee clips around the exhaust bracket, and exhaust mount. Make sure there is no movement in the fucker.

i got this problem too! i think it might be my exhaust but i can lift my exhaust any higher! and there is no movement in my exhaust? let me know if you find a solution pal!

clio-ant.
take it to a exhaust centre and get them to warm the brackets then bend them downwards. you can do this a home if you have a blow lamp but you need the wheels on a ramp to do it.....

thanks but what will it do if i just bend the brackets downwards? wint it lower the exhaust?

Sorry. you have to bend the brackets on the exhaust downwards. that will make the exhaust come upwards beacuse its held with the rubber brackets
