Koni shocks - any good

Finally I found a company that do not think I am mad when I say the distance between the mounting holes on my front struts is 58mm NOT 52mm or 54mm

That company is Koni, the only ones I have found to offer front clio struts with a 58mm gap (only found on 1.2 + 1.4 phase 3 clios made in 1998 apparently)

Anyway they aint exactly the cheapest around at £100 per shock (top adjustable for firmness) but are they worth it?

I have a feeling that this is going to be an inevitable purchase as my shocks have started to leak they are so battered. Still some positive feedback would ease the forthcoming credit card assault ;)

if its all you can get then youve not really got a choice.

They are fine, nothing amazing, but fine.....just a shocker mate.

have you tried the measurement from the centre of the strut bottom tube to the centre of the lower strut bolt?

or have you tried to fit any of the 52/54mm struts?

Yeah the 54mm ones are too small (narrow and bolt holes too close)

Thats the other measurement Koni use centre of bottom bolt to centre of strut body 55mm or 61mm

Need to take one off and have a good look I think.

What do valvers have? 54mm?

There are apparently two different measurements on valvers as well. I think it was only the early ones though. Anyway, I ran Konis for 2 or 3 years, I thought they were great.

Ive been in RSs before with 3 different types of suspension -

Standard shocks plus lowering springs - Poo in extremis. Choppy? You need a sickbag...

Spax -40mm shocks and springs - my current set up. Ok, but a bit bouncy if you see what I mean. (Dur, perhaps if I made them a bit softer...? ;))

Koni -25mm (I think) shocks and springs - niiice. Seemed more composed and less rigid than the Spax, like it was absorbing the bumps rather than just flinging you off them at high speed.

So, yes, Konis are good. :) Buy them!

I belive Koni and Bilstein ar the top brands when it comes to "standard" shocks. Koni are adjustable, which is nice.
