About £3.5k your looking at drive ina nd rive out with 120hp or ther abouts.
Kit included low comp pistons.
Kit alone is £1500 I belive or that was the aim Im guessing ti will turn out to be more like 2 to 2.5k though.
From the estimate of 120hp your looking at about a 0.8 bar turbo. I think they were using the R5 Gtt turbo.
Its expensive though for what it is IMO Id go for a 1.8 or Wiliams conversion instead would be difficult on a Mk2 2 but more reliable and more potentila there.
or a 5GTT conversion - thats what I want anyway!
go for it connor !! Itll be the fastest 1.2 around with a dump valve !! more reliable than a 14 year old R5 lump !!
id like the 1.2 Turbo for novelty value but its a bit steep for the power increase etc.
Yeah thats what I was thinking, the novelty value of a 1.2 turbo would be wicked hehe.
And I aint looking to change my car in the next 3 years as I have spent so much on it and going to spend alot more in the coming 2 months so was thinking I will need somet to keep me amused with it instead of always wanting somet that lil bit quicker and a bolt on turbo would be the easiest route apart from nitrous.
& that honestly doesnt sound to bad for a hi boost turbo (sounds like its gonna be running near 10-12 psi?) with the low comp pistons included as well as fitting... coz u drive in with 75bhp and come out with 120bhp.... such an easy lazy mans way of going about it. Coz thinking about it, staying N/A you would have to spend soo much to get 120 bhp from the original 1.2 16v engine.
Im not thinking of doing it for at least a year but would be somet nice to aim for.

^what ben said. 120bhp will be a big increase over what youve got but its not going to be a particularly quick car at the end of the day IMO. Youd be better to up the capacity first then look at turbo kits etc if its not enough. Another thing, id doubt you can argue for the conversion from an insurance point of view - the insurance companies will still pull your pants down when they find whats been done to it.
Its a nice idea though.

Bit too much speculation going on, i was the one to release the news but as far as i know theres nothing confirmed yet so dont keep your hopes up. The plan is for k-tec to buy a 1.2 first and then get going on all kinds of mods.
The aim is 1.6 Clio power, however that is without substantial internal upgrades needed or intercooling (to keep costs down). With those bits added you could be looking upwards of 120bhp. David told me ideally thats what hed like to get but he more keen on making the kit cost effective for 1.2 owners being an economy car after all.
If you had a 1.216v stripped of its interior, lighter wheels etc combined with about 130bhp i think youd be knocking on the door of a 172s power to weight figure, after all we here of Saxo VTSs keeping up with them. However you have to remember that k-tec are really the only place you can take it to for maintenence which could be a problem..

Ben, I had my ickle 1.2 16v for 7,500 miles before I had my accident & I still wasnt bored with the power! sure i got annoyed a few times when my mates 16v whooped me etc but I was the one still getting 35mpg even when thrashing it.
120 bhp would be more than ample after going from 75bhp.
& u33db, I will probably do a few subtle things to up the capacity before then, but nowt serious. But a turbo would save hassle of doing alot of lil engine mods to up the power instead of just slapping that on.
& im sure there are insurance companies that specialise in pplz doing silly things like putting turbos on etc etc.
So Rob, they aint actually started making it yet?
& about just slapping a 1.6 16v engine in... I quite like the economy of my 1.2 so surely you would still have good economy when not flooring it or whatever with a turbo? & not to mention thats just not as unique etc. besides, I was asking about the turbo, not about an engine conversion
& obviously if i did do any mods to the 1.2 engine to up the capacity in the next year I dont want that being a waste by just swapping it with a 1.6 16v.
and about maintenence, k-tecs only 1h30mins away so not too bad for getting there for checks etc.
& its nice to try n keep as much of the car how its meant to be and just better the original car/engine!

A 1.2 wouldnt get a good MPG if you start sticking loads of mods and a turbo. Surely not? I can get pretty good mpg from the cup when pushing. Try owning a evo 2! Single figures is possible
Also is the 1.2 Gearbox up to the job of putting the 130 onto the road??? What about the brakes and springs??? Cant see it being very reliable either
Cant really see if being worth the work and hassle. Ok you might put a jumped up VTR or Nova GTE boy in his place maybe a badly kept VTS but is it really worth it when mk1 172s are getting so cheap now.
As long as its off boost you would still retain decent economy.
I dont think theyve got past the planning stage, a call would clear matters up though!
Technically Liverpool and Victoria or Frizzell would charge NO extra for a turbo conversion.
I think the point people are missing is that you could add bits as and when you can afford, whereas a 1.6 conversion would have to be done all in one go. There are indeed 1.6 mods available but theyre not so easy to get and very expensive.
Adamf - Good point about Mk1 172s but again, theyre not unique and have big big miles usually.

I think thats the main word to use in this topic, a 1.2 turbod clio is unique (ish) and will be a surprise for a few VTS,GTi,16vs !!

fair dos but youre still never convince me its worth the time and the money when theres cars with that power as standard and just as cheap to insure!
A turbos never gonna give the little engine any decent amount of torque either. Not really anything compared the bigger CC.

Not the case for any turbo cars ive been in mate. The evo 2 was fine under the turbo at 60 but once the turbo was going round more at say 90 the fuel almost leaked out. It would never do say Leeds>London on 1 tank doing speeds close to a ton
to put it simply.........
any petrol heat engine is around 33% efficient. this comes out as actual work....very sh*t TBH.
the rest of the energy is lost to the cooling system and in exhaust gases. the whole point of a turbocharger is to re-use "lost" energy from the exhaust gases, so improving the overall efficiency of the engine to around 40%.
like i said if used "correctly", they can/will improve fuel economy.
an Evo isnt designed for economy.......but if u changed fuelling and ignition it would produce better fuel efficiency with a pay-off of less power.

& i must say, some very good points as above.... about just buying a mk1 172... anyone can do that, not really unique. I dont know about you, but I wouldnt mind a mk2 172 but would probably still prefer the car ive got atm with a turbo on it... Not to mention, I dont like the mk1 172 so wouldnt want one over mine.
And if I was seriously thinking about it a year down the line, the fuel economy would be important so like stan said, a turbod 1.2 16v would be far more economical than a 172.

Still cant see a turbod 1.2 or 1.4 being anywhere near as good as a real 172/cup or 182. Will only just be quicker than a slighty modded 1.6 surely?
Remember also that the little brakes have to wash off all that speed so do something with them too. Robs look pretty good
If you want to make something unique (which is good for a change) the 1.2 could be supercharged your looking at about £5k for ~100hp but youd need another about £800 for lowered pistons to let you hit ~130hp.
Another £300 on cams and youd be on about 140 I recon.
As to the box strenght well its not very good but Renault use a variation of it on the 1.4 (longer ratios I think not sure what else).
Throttle bodies would be another way to go you maybe looking at £3 to 4k for about 100hp with another 15hp possibly with head work and cams (about £800 maybe). Youd have to ask Ben though for potential from throttle bodies.
Brakes are the same as fitted to the valvers/williams so there not to bad. But the car is heavier so there less potent
