Lack of steering feel in cars is due to...?

  Breaking A 172 Replica
When people say "the car has no steering feel" (and imply the drive is poor as a result) what part of the car causes this?

Is it just the steering rack? The tyres? Alloys? Steering Wheel? Chassis in general?

The reason I ask is because quite few people say the non-RS clios have poor steering feel/lack of feedback yet no one seems to say this about the RS clios.

Thanks

I would say all those you mentioned are factors mate. Worn rack or power steering, big soft tyres, oversized alloys etc

But some cars just have reputations for having a lack of steering feel, e.g. Audi whereas some get good reviews e.g. BMW?

Can be anything from the wheel to the road. The main thing with most cars is the type of power steering used. Electric or Hydro-electric is knowhere nere as good as just hydraulic. That is the difference between non RS and RS. Could be bushes, dampers, tyres etc as well though.
