Laptop battery

I wounder if anyone can help ive just bought a 2nd hand compaq presario 2100 laptop but the battery dont seem to charge, does this mean its totaly dead and i need a new one. If so does anyone know where i can get one for cheap ive looked on ebay already, or does someone have one to sell me

You could try looking in the bios, as some laptops have the option to recondition a battery, but it sounds like you will need to get a new one...I would suggest ebay.....

My sister had the exact same problem with her Presario 2100!

The solutions:
As she had it plugged into the mains all the time and not using it freely. The battery lost its memory to charge, you then have to try 'training' it again. Plug it in for a bit then use it without it been plugged into the mains.

Then this was sorted but 2 months later after using it through the battery and mains it stopped charging again. So i took it to a shop and the battery turned out perfectly fine but the plug kit (big AC box) wasn't working correctly. We've just today bought a new AC for it which works fine now... *touch wood*

It probably is the battery but may indeed not be, could just as easily be the charging circuit (not very likely) or the power supply (more likely).

Like valver lad says, batteries can develop a memory effect so initially try running it on the battery until it goes flat, charging it for a while (even if it appears not to be according to the lights etc), running it until it goes flat again, and so on. But they can be permenantly damaged so if you don't get any joy you probably need a new one.
