Laptop for Uni! Up to £600

  Meg R26 + Mk4 GTTDI
Been pointed in the direction of Acer, Dell and Sony but dont really know which is the best. The closer to £500 the better but willing to go to £600 if its good.

I'll be doing Mechanical Engineering at uni so will probably be for word processing, internet, autocad (or similar) and Im not really sure what else tbh...

Oh and possibly a wireless printer. Do they need wireless internet to work or is it just between the laptop and printer without an internet connection?

I was thinking of upgrading to a MacBook, as my laptop is shagged. Takes about 10 minutes just to load up now :S

And as it's my last year being a student, I thought it would be a good idea to make use of the apple discount. But what is the main differences between the MacBook and the pro? Is the pro worth the extra money?

You can compare Macs on the Apple site.

I know I've had a look, and the only real difference I can pick out is the RAM at 2gb on the MacBook and 4gb on the pro.

So what I was wondering was whether it's worth the extra money for the extra 2gb, plus the light up keyboard etc?

Definitely.

Twice as much RAM is definitely a big plus in terms of internals. Visually it's better IMO, and the backlit keyboard is awesome and means you can easily use it without any lights on.

check out the dell studio's (or XPS), probably the highest spec laptop you'll get for the money!
i've had my XPS 1530 for 2 years and am just about to start my last year at uni now (doing computing with alot of programming & architecture so needed high spec) and it cost me £800.

sign up to quidco and get like 4-8% cashback just for referring through them, plus dell also usually have discount codes anyway! (i saved over £300)

plus the £800 i paid included a 3 year warranty, peace of mind for some!
