LCD techie help

Got myself a 32" LCD tv, it's driving me mad: the screen is blurred and jumpy when there is any kind of movement. The response time is 16.5 ms. I reckoned this was about average for £500.

What can I do? Complain to the manufacturer? Or am I to expect this with such a response time?

No, it sounds faulty mate, go to a shop and ask for a demonstration for the same model you have to make sure.

my 32" tv was £400 and has a 8ms response time...does sound like your tv is bust though.

yeah i did a bit of research and read many online reviews, which all said the sound wasn't overwhelming, but the picture was as good as any for the money.

It's made by Polaroid; gonna call them today and complain

My Dell 20" widescreen isn't much better if at all, yet still I can race around on PGR3 with no ghosting and I watch my Sky through it, and there's no issues there either...

20ms is poor mate, i'd reckon on 90% of units on the market being 8ms on B/W tests.

Personally i'd look at another model mate, Woolworths do a rebranded 32" for £399 by a 'Techwood' which is supposed to be a good watch.

There's plenty around for £400-£500 mark.

20ms is poor really for what's out there, but I think these things can get pretty anal and it suits me fine - I play FSX all day long through DVI, XBox360 through the VGA and I watch my TV courtesy of Sky and the S-Video port. I've not noticed any difference. And how many FPS is TV/Xbox/PC? I'd hazard a guess that those precious 5fps makes more difference to it...

Ok, I've tested all scart, hdmi ports on my TV, the unit just aint great. How do I get my money back from PC World? Will they exchange the TV for another? Will the manufacturer refund me? Cost more than £100, so I've got an agreement with them too

Then take it back fella, 28 days to return it. "I'm not fully satisfied, and am returning it in original condition".

Refund/Exchange at least.

Today was the 28th day, so I boxed it up and ran down to the shop before closing. Exchanged for a Philips, WXGA, dolby doo-dah,TNT... blah blah. Bit more expensive, but has a response time of 8ms. As opposed to 16.5 for the old Polaroid I took back. The sound is half decent too.

The tv still has some ghosting on certain scenes. You can see the scene changing, not as fluid as the old tube tellies. But is definitely an improvement.

Think I'm just too used to CRT units.

lol glad you got fixed up mate.

Unfortunately until they start outputting HD as standard, an LCD will always pick out the imperfections in the analogue/digital images. CRT's are/were masters of papering over the cracks by aliasing everything.

You'll adjust to it im sure, just tinker with the menus.
