leak-down tested 2 clio will

hi all
just as information
i bough a leak down tester and tested both my and my GF williams

my williams, with 200k km on the clock, passed the test with flying colors. 20% leak on all cylinders, which sounds very good for a engine with that sort of mileage

the bad news came from my GF williams, with 93k km on the clock
cylinders 1, 2 and 3 indicated a leak between 25 and 35%, and cyl number 4 a leak of 80%!!!

that explains a red cross marked on the inlet manifold n.4. pity i didnt noticed it when i bought the car.
the car previously belonged to a lady who probably used the car for short commuting and never warmed up the engine.
more tests coming to see whether the leak is from valves or rings. id say its valves because there is no oil consumption and spark plug looks clean

Were the engines tested from cold or run just before?

Use a compression tester and check the compression values as per normal, then stick a teaspoon amount of oil down the plug hole and check again. If pressure rises its the rings, if it dont its either the gasket or your valves.

as above the oil will help seal the rings so you can tell if its the rings or not.if you have a leak tester you can source where it is from anyway as that is really the reason why you do a leak test.do a leak test after a compression test has confirmed low compression on whatever cylinder.you put the leak tester to high flow and listen where the air is going after youve turned the engine over to get to tdc on whatever cylinder your testing.
