leaking cat, any ideas?

Recently I noticed the exhaust had become slighty louder, I put my hand over the exhaust and noticed gases blowing up on the heat shield at the front of the cat. Has anybody had any experience of this, will this affect mpg and performance. It's a mk2 ph1 1.2

effect performance? you need performance in the first place :rasp: joking aside, if its on the join prob needs new gasket or seal it if its the cat itself just get it welded.

I had a hole in my cat, it can easily be welded if that's the case. Local garage/exhausat place will do it for you if you slip 'em some beer tokens

Failing that go to an exhausat place and they will check exhaust for free and tell you the problem
