Leaking sunroof, need a new metal bit

Hi,
Raining today and the Clio mk2 I bought has a sunroof leak. Drains are clear, stains and damp point to the sunroof seal. About to do the seal replacement with 3mm butyl mastic, but one of the metal frame pieces is very rusty and wondering if it is possible to buy a replacement somewhere. You can see it here, the silver metal strip in the video 3.20 to 3.40. Anyone know what the part is called and where to buy, and if it is easy to install? Thanks.

Cant find any new ones for sale. I would suggest rust treating the old one (if surface rust). Otherwise try finding one at a breakers, they do come up on Ebay every so often if you are willing to wait.

Thanks but it's not shown on that. The screws (#7 in diagram) go through it before fastening into (#6). It's like a 30cm section of this link below, only with holes for the screws. I prob will just end up rust treating it, if there's enough of it left.

Sorry, you are indeed correct. I first looked at it in the dark with a torch and thought it was a separate piece but it is #6.

Just alot of surface rust and very orange, but it isn't as bad as I thought. Will probably just clean it off and rust treat it when I do the job. Thanks.

Hydrate-80 by Bilt Hamber is the most recommended rust converter/treatment on here if that helps. Ignore me if you know about it!

I've got some Hammerite Kurust.

Took it out today and cleaned all the bits. 16 bolts and glad of a ratchet spanner! The rust is only surface rust. Scraped off the seal to the roof which was badly deteriorated as expected. Drains are clear. The top rubber seal that the glass sits on is in very good condition. Will lubricate with silicone spray. Just waiting for the butyl mastic (£9 eBay) to arrive and then will put it back. Butyl should last another 10 years. 👍

It will be leaking between the frame and body. Best to get some sikaflex 291. I use this on mine and it never failed

I'd already ordered some butyl rubber, and read it's perfect for the job.

Took off the top rubber seal and gave everything a good wash, alot of gunk in all the crevices.

Put it all back in the car today.

The butyl rubber is great, like plasticine and forms a great seal, and if it every has to be removed it doesn't create a mess like silicone.

Also learnt how a rachet spanner works, as mine fell apart! Put it back together and carried on. Was a pretty easy job but just takes time, most of it undoing and refitting all the bolts. A rachet spanner is essential.

Also the rubber down the front top side of the front doors acts like a drain but it was blocked solid with gunk on both sides, clear now.

I'm having the same issue with my Phase 3 Clio. A gradual damp patch has now developed in to water pouring out of the interior light after heavy rain. All footwells are now swimming pools. I've seen the youtube videos on how to do this but I'm not very confident pulling cars apart so was hoping to get a garage to do this. However, having visited a couple of local garages, they won't touch it. One garage said the best they can do it just seal the sunroof shut and tape over it, which I'm not keen on (because what if the problem persists after that!? It's stuck shut).
One garage did recommend taking it to a glass/windscreen place and see if they will take a look.

After seeing this post though, I'm in two minds whether to give it a go myself when the weather clears up. I have zero in the way of tools though, so can you let me know which size ratchet spanner you used so I can potentially go and buy one?
Also, where did you get the 3mm mastic seal stuff from?

Can't help with what tool sizes you'll need, can't imagine it'll be anything more specialised that would come in a basic ratchet set though.
You'll want butyl tape like the below, that's what people recommend for the door seals and the sunroof will be similar.

I used 3mm butyl round cord from eBay but it's available on Amazon too, and bought Amazon basics ratchet spanner set, I can't remember but I think it was the 13mm but better to buy the set.
You also need to check the scuttle drains aren't blocked as this is also a common source of leaks into the footwells.

Hi, I'm familiar with mk2 Clio drains and easy way to clear them via front wheel arches. Where are the drains on a mk3 ? Is there a central drain, like mk2? Can they be cleaned more simply by accessing by removing wheel arch panel, like mk2 ? Any other drains worth clearing on mk3 ? Thanks
