Learner drivers and insurance - is insurance needed?

  R35 GTR
I know to drive on the road you need a provisional and insurance. But if I take someone to a supermarket car park, do they need either of these? As it is private land......

plus you have to have held a license for 3 years to teach on the road, what about on a carpark....

How about a disused airfield? I am pretty sure you dont need either license or insurance for this.

On private property vehicles don't have to be insured at all. For example on a farm or country estate a 12 year old could happily drive around in a car.

However I doubt the same would apply to your local Asda carpark as it's open to the public.

You can, as long as the public doesn't have access it has to be strictly private!! although supermarket car parks are ideal and very empty late at night or on the higher floors which is perfect for learner drivers to learn, it is illegal ;) and should not be done;) however some people still carry out this kind of practice i don't condone this kind of behaviour ;) LOL

Hope this helps, i know cos me dad was a traffic cop:D

You need insurance for anywhere that comes under the road traffic act so a car park will count unless you own it and its locked. Taking a car down to the local asda after they are closed you will need insurance. Pretty much only private land you dont, but then if you dont have permission . . . . but thats another story!

If I can legally i will, I was going to give Rebecca free lessons, but looks like I cant unless I hire some private land.

I learned loads of my driving skills in a huge carpark for a disused factory in a near-by industrial estate. I only needed 10 lessons profesionally too! Saved loads of money and driving around the carpark was good practice as you can use the parking spaces and corners to practice manouvers. Their are plenty of empty carparks in industrial estates. Just look out for cctv! lol!

Rebeccas dad used to guard a site, and there was loads of space for practising driving, but didnt think about it at the time. Could always find a friendly security guard to let us drive round...

I dont think i can get done, but I still want to make sure Rebecca cant get 12 million points for doing something trivial.

Is adding her to your insurance as a named driver not an option?, wouldn't have thought it'd cost that much.
