Lhd 172

  Clio 172 LHD
Howzit

Brand new to this. Just got me a LHD 172 from Russia. Nearly able to drive it (pending paperwork). Long story as to how I got it but any thoughts on LHD? I drove in Cario for 5 years on t'other side of the road but here I may have the odd problem. Like the Dartford tunnel?

:S

It was a gift and cost me £2K to get it to conform to UK spec. Done no miles and in good condition s onow I can't wait to drive it. Local Renault garage a nightmare but I gather it is fun and fast.

The plates are diplomatic and I don't want to put pics up.

Overtaking well I guess I have to hang back and hope the cars is a quick as I have bee nlead to believe?

I guess it'll come down to whether I am a reasonable driver. I gather being on the wrong side makes you anticipate more, plan ahead and concentrate more.

This is potentially interesting though.

Imagine in France they sold a 172 Cup in a colour that wasn't available here, maybe white; would people be interested?

I bought a LHD 106 as the colour was rare, and I'm only 0.5m to the left as it's such a small car. I have no gripes, and I think it has some advantages.

This is gonna make me sounds like a berk, but I asked around for conversion prices and one company said that when I sell, call them as being a LHD it woul dbe handy for track days. I have the number and if and when I sell, I guess I'll find out? No one would d oit for less than the car was (is) worth so I am sat half a metre to the left.

What advantages, I wonder?

I am getting a litter picker for car parks and the Darftord tunnel !

I'm pretty sure the car is the same as the UK model?

Advantages of being on the left are being on the outside of roundabouts, and whenever I've been on track I've travelled clockwise, so again you're sat on the outside.

On country lanes you can get close to the side of the road knowing where you are.

Also, my front left wheel doesn't lock up now under braking.

My V6 is LHD...no problems at all.

In fact, you can see the kerbs easier, and see down the inside of HGVs on B roads to overtake, or throw your co driver out into traffic and get them to check if theres anything coming...

Re selling won't be a problem...

I think the car is standard now I've had to change the Xenons and the instrument panel (ouch).

I gather that LHD means you tend to concentr8 more and plan ahead. Guess I'll find out. A pal who drove a LHD then went back to RHD said driving had become boring as he had nothing to do.

I will get a litter picker for the Dartford tunnel and for multi storeys.

Got the certificate of conformity from Renault en France so that is the last piece of paperwork I hope I'll need. Hope I don't have to do the SVA test.

If I can register it for a UK plate I will be in business and on the road at last !!

On the road for a few months and LHD no worries. The car is huge fun. Now to save up and sort out the chewed alloys and the stone chips and stuff 'til it is pukka
