Liningtons in Portsmouth closing down

Anybody know the true reason why Liningtons is closing down? Did Sewards make the liningtons directors a fat offer??? Itll be weird not walking past it on the way to Fratton Park on a Saturday afternoon.

BTW a Sewards Renault is opening up soon in Portsmouth, off the Eastern Road where all the Audi/VW dealers etc are..

As far as I know, the Seward group have got the Renault franchise for the south, so it means goodbye to Liningtons, and from whats been posted on here, Olympian Renault too. Olympian have many different franchises so will still be selling other makes, but for Liningtons Renault is all they have / had.

From what I recall i think liningtons owned Rogate Renault near petersfield I wonder if this is going over to sewards too??

Well ... when I first heard the rumours several months back ... my immediate thought was "very saleable chunk of land in Portsmouth with good access up the Eastern Rd". Reckon between the franchise change, and the value of the site, it wouldnt have been hard to convince the owners of Liningtons.

Bought mine from the Trade Sales guy there, Andrew Bloomfield I think he was called. Seemed a good set up, shame to see it shutting down

Yeh the plot of land is fairly large,a nice size for a housing development (although who the bloody hell would want live on that corner Ill never know??) but look at the problems at the Pompey Centre. Milan mandaric is having problems financing the redevelopment of Fratton Park because of stagnating property market. ie No one is interested in building housing and his stadium getting built is on the basis that he can sell housing within the pompey centre. Whatever happens, i dont think Ill be taking my car to Sewards - not after the experiences my brother in law has had with them and his Fiat.

I have been told that a Renault garage might be taking over the old Rover MG garage out the back of Fareham (on the way to wickham)
