Lip on brake discs?

Hi all

Noticed that my front discs on my 172 have a fairly pronounced lip around the outer edge of the discs. Pads are in very good condition.

I assume the discs are on their way out and need replacing? Or is it common? Just ask as my old 106 always had lips on the front disc after some use.

As the disc wears, the lip appears. If the disc is now thinner than the min. thickness they should be replaced. Don't know this off the top of my head, but someone will.

ye its pretty normal, if the lip gets to more than about 2mm id replace the discs

your mot should pick up if you are / will be in need of new brake discs and give you an advisory on it... what sort of mileage are you on??

Last MOT (3 months ago) just said Advisory, rear brakes pitted slightly. On 78k miles!!!

at the end of the day it's your car but your mot picked up on it, and your thinking about it now... also if your used to it from your pug id just change 'em to give you peace of mind and you won't have to worry next mot time.
