Liquid Yellow 220 Trophy

Decided to treat myself to the EDC Clio I have been hankering after for a while and had almost given up looking for a nice LY one (Car dealers - ugh - amirite?)

Then I came on here to remove a for sale post for another car I put up, as it had sold and @Lewi86 has posted an ad for this car - and to be fair I was almost sold on the spot. A trip out to view it and meet the owner confirmed that it needed to come and live with me and my harem of Renault chod.

It's unusual for me to buy something that doesnt need work, or that isnt cheap for some reason - so its made it a bit more special. So far it hasn't disappointed. What a car!

Pictured here with my other Clio <3 (both are due to appear in some YouTube films quite soon, preview here )

Credit to Renault Connected for this image :) (which was a lot harder to get than you might imagine haha)

I chucked some performance brake pads at it and took it to Cadwell for a bit of experimentation - it's simply too fast to explore the limits on the roads properly.

What a car! These things are unreal.

Future plans - well, maybe a little remap, possibly i'd be tempted to the 4-pot Brembo conversion also just as much for aesthetics as performance. Thats about it due to my other ongoing car items... If you prefer more home spannering, rust and soul crushing torment in your project reads, try my other threads:

Congrats on the car mate. These cars are awesome! Love mine, I haven’t driven it in a few days and went out in it tonight and was in love again!
plans sound good too. Really want to do a track day in mine next year.

Shame @Lewi86 sold the briads! It looked epic on them!!
You know what, i'm not keen on em personally. I've just bought a set of OE 220T wheels for some sticky tyres, I like the ones on it now also but maybe I'd like to try something like this in the future... I like spokey wheels :)

Mmm yeah they look better off the car than on. The assetto gara? wheels suit them as do (annoyingly) turini’s. Really want to track a set down some day! And I hated them on my 172!

This was it on assetto garas...Nice wheel also light so good for track..but every man and there dog ended up having them so got rid.

I bagged a set of the OE 18" wheels to put some nice sticky tyres on, and seeing as I was taking 2 sets of wheels for refurb anyway I thought it rude not to add these in at the same time.

The plan was black.

So anyway.

The answer to "can you get 12 wheels in a 220 Trophy" is yes btw :) - i'd usually use the XC90 but the Clio is clean air charge exempt and the place I use is inside the Birmingham one in Digbeth.

Just to be an arse if yours is a facelift 220 Trophy these aren't the OE wheels, these are the 200 pre facelift wheels optional extra.

I dont like the later 18" ones, I think they look like someone financed a set of Fox racing wheels from Halfords and didnt choose the right offset.

The Clio has been an absolute delight to use - can't believe its nearly a year since I bought it! We went for a bit of a jaunt to Montlhery & the Ring :)

I had a work trip to Portugal on Tuesday afternoon, so I left the Pistenklause at 8:30pm Monday night and was back to Calais before half 12 :) Did Adenau to Coventry on a tank and 2/3rds, considering we weren't hanging around thats pretty amazing.

What a machine.

Last group shot before I engaged warp factor 12 across Germany, Belgium and France.

Took it to Oulton with the Vee for a static show. The first and last of the RenaultSport Clio's.

New discs and pads next, oh, and it got an oil & filter last month too. Early, but can't hurt can it?!

Still absolutely loving this little tarmac terror. I hadnt done the brake fluid or gearbox oil since I bought it so... I did those.

Sucked the old fluid out of the reservoir with a home made syringe thing, needs to be thin to get right to the back

RBF 660 and an Eezibleed, no issues really, it all went swimmingly

Old stuff wasnt too bad at all.

x20240413_171556_RS.jpg

Thinking about a Brembo conversion now though. Be rude not to.

Anyway. I digress, dropped the undertray and drained the 'box oil. Fairly simple. Used my pump to pump in the prescribed amount (these aren't fill-till-it-comes-out apparently, though after I filled it I could see the oil level through the hole so its about that level anyway. And if you dont have a pump for filling gearboxes you SO need one. Makes it miles easier. Was about £20 off ebay.

Noticed while I was under the wheel arch theres a bit of a dirt trap around the back of the arch liner.

Even under the sound deadening

Cleaned it all out, must have been half a kilo of crap in there! And damp. Glad Renault have sorted the chassis protection out, 20 years ago and that would have been a hole in the floor by now!
