Nortons crap . It throws up false attack messages so you think it's actually protecting your system so you'll subscribe to the updates . I'd remove it and get AVG .

I can second that, I'm afraid Norton is utter rubbish :( I've looked at four PCs in the last year with Norton on, which were behaving "strangely" but Norton said the machine was clean... in all four cases when I removed Norton and put AVG on, it found between 5 and 10 infections.

As for whether you have a virus infection, it sounds like your "attack" report is coming from the firewall component and it's basically telling you someone/thing tried to connect to a certain port it didn't like the look of, and is most probably bulls**t. In case it is a virus your best course of action is to get a working virus scanner on there, update it, and run a full scan.

Not very constructive, but I'd rather have a suite of worms/trojans than Norton. They'd have much less of an impact on system resources. Uninstall. Although doing that will probably take an hour. Norton is the only AV where I've visibly noticed a massive framerate hit in a game.

Indeed Roy, I've never had the misfortune of running Norton myself (not since about 1992 anyway, when it wasn't actually that bad), but I've liberated many a machine running it. The term "bloatware" springs to mind...

I can't believe Norton is a piece of commercial software, given its quality :(
