Living with a 182 and having a baby......

  2015 ST2(MO)/CorsaLE
think by the looks of it ill end up keeping the 182, as ive had offers but not at the amount im willing to let it go (or what i feel its worth).. little one is 9 months old now and only been in it once lol as it not easy getting here in the back with the cobras, purhaps should have kept the heavy old seats.
any live with this as the title suggests, misses corsa seems to fit the bill so much more, might just be the standard seats, (so that might be the answer)
thanks all

Put the standard seats back in. I use my 182 as my daily car and also have 2 daughters aged 5 and 2. I've always found it easier to put the kids in a 3 door car as I can get myself in front of their car seats. There is more room than you think in these cars. We've got number 3 due in July and will be still using the 182 for a bit longer, well until I can get something bigger.

A clio is bigger than any car i've had since Milly was born. She's nearly 4 now.

Man up swap the seats plus a little cash and take the good wife out for a lovely meal.

You're welcome.

I had absolutely no problem getting my first nipper in and out of the Trophy. After the second I found it got a bit cramped and needed something bigger.

Having been smashed from the behind in my old 182, the state of the back end would make me think twice about putting a baby in the back.

Those panels are designed to crumple mate. They don't get 5* ncap for no reason.

I've worked on them for years and they are solid. Especially the front.

Mabye the new ones are 5* but check this out. Smart car at 40 into the rear. The two guys in the back were being stretchered out.

Smart car in comparison

I would Stick the baby in the front and the missus in the back.

You can't really compare the damage but like I said the car is designed to crumple like that. As bad as it looks, that's done it's job.

Crumple zones absorb. The impact is less likely to travel into the cabin.

The Mk2 has a 5*. As an assessor I have to know a lot about these things snd safety.

That shape Clio was a 4* car i think so not far off, the Smart car is only a 3* car. Most small hatch backs would like that after a shunt at 40mph TBH.

Think how much energy has been absorbed by that rear end collapsing!! thats done it's job, and done it well. I saw a lot worse when I was working in crash testing

You're right mate it's the mk3 that had 5* apologies. It's been a long time since i've had to look it up.

By the by. The Mk2 is still one of the safest hatchbacks on the road.

I wasn't actually. I didn't actually mean the * thing. More the crumple zones and safety devices.

Was 4* the highest you could get back then? 2000 iirc.

the mk2 laguna was the first ever to get a 5*. I think that was in 2000

Cool. I remember my mate getting a brand new 03 clio and the * thing was a massive deal. Infact the car was like the coolest thing ever back then.

The Mk3 only gets 4* for child occupants.

Only? You say that like it's a bad score. Anyway ncap is neither here nor there. Buy a Modus/Laguna or a new Volvo if you want the best in safety.

Yeah Paul I think you should pit the standard seats back in. I'm kind of perplexed why you had to ask the question in the first place. No brainer to me.

Just pointing out that it's not 5* where the kids are concerned. I didn't say 4* was a bad thing although to some parents I'm sure they would think it is compared to their 5* car.

  williams and trophy
only problem i had with kids on the car was with the boot. they kept escaping ;)

on a more serious note. the pram wouldnt fit in the boot of the mrs' dci. had no probs in the williams. had no trouble with space in the back either. the larger doors of a 3door giving better access to get the belts on the recaros

ended up getting the reclining seat sorted so can get her in the back, its tight for the wife in the passenger seat as baby seats are so big and front seat has to be pushed full forward, will be much easier when shes not in baby seat. thanks

Couldn't just put the standard seats back in?

The missus should be in the back if it's a rear facing seat. Non?
