Load Rating For 195/50/15 Tyres....

  C3 Picasso Beast
I've figured out that I want V speed rating but not sure on the load rating???

I've got a choice of 82 or 86...currently my 16s are 84??

What does everyone else have with these size tyre??

Thanks :)

  182
There's typically 2 load ratings (4 figures difference) to each tyre size, one for "normal" applications (whatever that means) and the higher one for "extra load".

Seemingly the 195 50 r15 is an exception to this, as there are 3 different ratings being offered by the tyre manufacturers nowadays. 78 was the original "normal" load rating, 82 being the "extra load", however now it seems the 86 is also being offered and the 82 is becomming typical for the size... hmm???

I've never tried any given tyre in both versions so I can't say how they feel in typical driving situations but I guess the extra load versions will have extra reinforcing to minimise distorsion and heat generated (= heavier and stiffer construction) whether this means more or less grip in any application is not so easy to say... best to go with what was on when new?

For what it's worth...

the conti-sportcontact - 195 45 r16 (on p2172) is rated at 80... a "normal" load
the PE2 - 205 45 r16 on (182's) is rated at 83... again, a "normal" load

The clio is a light car so perhaps the lower load ratings are best suited to the cars. Just a thought!
