Hi,

where is the reciever for the key fob / pip that operated the alarm & Central locking?

I need to remove one from a clio tomorrow but I'm not sure where it will be located.

Thats what I thought but I had a good look in the scrapyard but couldnt see it?!?!

Then I took the interior light out of my Vee and its not in there either??!

They work off radio frequency on the later models mate i am pretty sure! Not 100% sure where they pick it up, the earlier ones had a magic eye infra-red jobbie by the light!

im fairly sure its in the uch.

on the kangoo vans its a relay shaped box in the engine bay fusebox but i dont think clios have that (i didnt clock one anyway)

i know on a mk1 it has a reciever near the light but the decoder box is behind the drivers side air vents (on the right of the steering wheel). If the new ones work on radio frequency then mayb theres one in there. Just a guess

body computer,, under the passenger side of the dash black box with load of relays on the bottom

Anyone got a photo of one?

Any idea if it can be wired up purely to run the central locking off the Fob?

The car its off is just a basic level non sport version Mk2 Phase 1. I've basically used the steering column in my R5 and I got the keys with the column. They key has a push button on the fob to activate the alarm / central locking and I wanted to try to use that on my R5... I did take the decoder ring... Is that worth a try?

Yes try that.

Tried that, it just gives 12v output on the signal wire with no key near it and 6v when the key is near it... Doesn't respond to the button being pushed... Sounds like i need this UCH thing?

Anyone got a pic or idea of where it is?

Does this mean the newer 172 and 182s have a range of more than about a meter?

ashy, you wont get a pic mate as its too dark under the dash.
the uch runs EVERYTHING interior wise, including a few engine functions the starter signal and a few other bits and peices go through it

if you stick your head under the passenger side dash of a 172 you cant miss it black box with relays clipped to the bottom of it

if you have already wired all the interior functions/got round the immobilsier and everything else and the only reason you want to use it is for the central locking its really really not worth it

and none of the renault range use the decoder ring to pick up the central locking signal

as for the immobiliser... if thats the case i wonder if you were to put 6v up the signal wire they would start without a coded key

Nice one, I'll pop back to the scrapyard and have a sniff about then :)

As for the 6v trick... I dont know? Sounds too easy... But maybe so?

renault told me it would be £260+ for a new decoder box for my immobiliser wen it went wrong. i ended up having the ecu re programmed and bypassed the immobiliser by a mate. If u have the choice not to have one i wouldnt bother! Its bound to go wrong
