Long-term Clio storage

Can anyone tell me the process for storing a car long term without any detrimental effects to the health and condition of the car.. what fluids etc would need to be drained etc? What sort of storage could be used.. v. dry i should imagine but would that be best for the engine?

Any ideas..

Period of storage could be anywhere up to and beyond 10 years

Take the car to pices and store each one fully submerged in oil. The when you want to drive it agin get some new rubber parts and rebuild the car.

But for reasonable long term protection get one of those big bags to store the car in http://www.storacar.co.ukwww.storacar.co.uk (not sure what they achually do not looked at the site its advertised in Evo)

Jack the car up, put protecting oil in the engine and run the engine so the oil gets all round the engine.

I think the engine needs to be run warm every now and again though to stay its best unless your taking serious long term protection so jack it up or least rotate the tyres all the time and take it for a long run to get all the fluids round the engine and keep chaning the oil and fileters every 6 months.

If loads of long term protection isnt used then the engine seals can errode. Long term protection of the car though means that it will take a while before the car can be driven again as oil etc will need to be changed etc.

From what I can remember about various bits that Ive read:

will need to put it on suspension jacks as the tyres will suffer if you leave it standing as you would normally.

park it in gear, without the handbrake on, as it will seize on otherwise.

Would say get a trickle charger to keep the battery topped up but you could always just take it out and put one in when you want to run it.

Will need to make sure fluids are correct at the start - e.g. too much water in the coolant will corrode internally. (I think!) Plus, brake fluid gets dodgy after a couple of years due to absorbing water and lowering its boiling point.

Think you are supposed to leave the windows slightly open to allow (dehumidified/air conditioned!) air to flow through the car to prevent damp/smells etc.

Just thinking out loud really, was curious as to whats involved.. They do it for vintage Jags and the like though, so why not more modern "classics"?

That carcoon thing looks good, expensive but if you were serious about things..





Imagine what king.strombas 002 would be worth if it was kept mint and pretty much off the road for the next 25+ years..
