Longlife exhaust system! Any good?

I'm looking to get a system for my car, it's going to be a sports cat and cat back exhaust, I've been looking at a longlife system, it's £595 fitted and made etc, all in the same day! But has anybody got one? Used one etc? Are they actually any good? Looking for all your opinions! It's going on my 172, standard apart from a k&n panel filter! Oh and they offered 6 months interest free credit which helps! Can anyone advise different etc or is longlife good stuff?

dont rate custom exhausts at all unless they are built my pipewerx over Manchester way. (the lad that owns pipewerx used to own blue flame exhausts)

i have seen alot of custom exhausts rust / sh1t baffles / crack / fall off cars etc. powerflow are the worst ones, long life are slightly better but still poor exhausts.

i have seen a turbo back system on a GSI astra rust to bits in a few months and i had a long life centre pipe on my VTS with a de cat, they made it the wrong bore size (1 1/2 inch instead of 2 like i asked ), looked like stevie wonder had welded it and it rusted to bits in a few months and had to be replaced.

I have one on mine which was fitted by the previous owner. Sounds ok, not loud at all. It's still in almost perfect condition and has been on 5 years. You get a lifetime warranty with it anyway. For the money you will be paying though I would probably forget changing the cat and just get a yozza

what is a good stealth system then? so many choices and cant make my mind up! do you all think not bother with the sports cat? will a de-cat effect how it runs, idles etc??

have a look on the traders section for BTM.

Fred at BTM is the only supplier of yozza's. its a very good exhaust and well worth the money.

So you don't rate any custom exhaust company other than pipewerx.... right!

And FYI all longlife exhausts come with a life time guarantee so why did you not just pop back to get it sorted?

In reply to the OP I had a long life system years ago. I never had any problems with it at all. But as said there are a lot of companies out there doing better work for better prices. I have a Prospeed system on mine now.

pipewerx are very good, however the only time i would go custom would be for a car that you cant get an exhaust for. like a 20vT BAM engined MK2 golf a mate had. apart from that i wouldnt recommend custom really,LL or powerflow especially.

i cant speak for prospeed because i have never seen one of their exhausts.

*note*

alot of custom exhaust places weld using metal inert gas welding. this is wrong because you should never weld dissimilar metals, especially metal with a high carbon content or materials high up on the electromotive series. because they weld in this manner the welds corrode and the exhaust ends up falling off the car either due to electrolytic corrosion between the dissimilar metals or the poor quality welding oxydising and the welds corroding.

the manufacturers of off the shelf exhaust systems invest ££££ in research and development and using coded welders.

the proper method is tungsten inert gas welding which is more expensive, hence why custom exhaust places only MIG weld. well, that and more skill is required when TIG welding.

oh and in case you know where i got this from im a class 2 coded welded / ASMA 9 code.

id also like to see how these custom exhaust places are applying fluid dynamics in the aid of designing their systems to get more power out of a vehicle.

when have you seen a custom exhaust place working out friction factors of grade 304 stainless? or one of them working out whether the flow through a certain part of an exhaust system is laminar / transitional / turbulent?

exactly.

Longlife are a franchise so vary from branch to branch. I had one made by them for mine but that's because the company had been running for years with a good reputation before ever taking on the longlife franchise. I went custom rather than off the shelf as I was very specific about wanting a quiet exhaust. The work is top notch, TIG welded, hand built silencers etc.... but I paid much less than what youv'e been quoted, much less!!!!! (and we're only talking a couple of months ago)

Research you're local franchise first as they are all different

So what's parts or the system did you have made? My quote of 595 is for a sports cat, centre and rear exhaust!
