Looking at buying a 172

  seat ibiza tdi sport 130
Hi everyone, Im new to this forum and new to Renaults alltogether.
Im looking at buying a Clio 172 or possibley a 182 quite soon.

Ive never owned a Renault but Ive always admired them from afar....5 Turbos, Clio williams etc.
I was just wondering what to look at when buying a Sport clio, Im looking at something like a 2002 plate or maybe leaving it longer and going for a 182.

Please dont flame me for this but Ive heard bad things about Clios and Renaults over all....Poor build quality and reliabilty etc (Not my words) Just what Ive heard. I wouldnt be on this forum if I thought they were really terrible.

What should I look out for and what are the problems they have and are they cheap to repair etc ?

Sorry for all the questions but Im a total noob with Renaults.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi and welcome
Thought id put this up mate its another thread recently started about the same thing really! nothing in it performance wise between 172/182! obviously all of them that your looking at should of had cambelt changed! and just look out for a well looked after one, and spend the most on it you can afford! high mileage also aint a problem

It all depends mate, I reckon I can get around 2.5k for my seat and could put maybe 500 to make it 3k....could wait a few months and spend more but im soooo bored with my current car, I'll only keep the clio a year tops anyway as I like to change alot and try new different cars.

I hear the silver 172,s are faster

Best of luck...... check the boot pan for distortion and the front shut lines for variance

3k to 3.5k with 60k miles should be a good one around that
