Looking at getting a 182

Hey Guys,

I'm looking to get a 182 in the very near future, would prefer cup packs but not a necessity.
You guys are the experts so what kind of 182 should I be expecting for ~£2,400?

Year
Mileage
Condition
Etc

Thanks for your advice!

Yes. Or getting a 172 instead. Do you really want to spend the extra monies on a twin exhaust ;)

I kinda do, haha! I had a LY 172 a year or so back and loved it but had to get a cheaper car since I was travelling long distances.
I'm back to my home-town now though and have a much bigger wage to play with so thought a 182 was a good shout.

No it doesn't have to be a 182 that was just my initial thoughts when I realised I had spare cash sitting about.

You'll be surprised what you can pick up for that price however I'd opt for a lower mileage 172. Just do the usual checks and make sure the belts have been replaced by a reputable garage/specialist.

Where abouts in the country are you? Up north £2400 seems to get you something perfectly ok, but on the south coast even the digustingly chavvy modified 172s with dodgy history start at £2400.

Yeah I hadn't checked my bank in a month or two and just happened to have that sitting about, you know how it is. When you've got it there you want to use it! I just got all excited about getting another Clio quickly.

I'm based East Midlands and the 172's that people suggested are looking promising so I'll go see a couple tomorrow.

You'll get a great example of a ph1 172 for ~£1800.

A nice reasonable mileage mk2 172 for ~£2300.

A nice example of a mk2 172 cup would set you back ~£2800 - £3000.

And 182s will start from around the £3000+ for a reasonable example dependant on spec.

I would highly recommend that if you go for a 182, to opt in on the cup packs as it makes a massive difference on a daily driver. If you contemplated a cup, go for a great example 172 cup over a 182 cup.

I bought my Ph1 172 threes and half years ago for £1900. It had 89,000 miles on it. It's been a superb car. Ok I've replaced things like exhaust and brakes and several sets of tyres and replaced the engine mountings with K Tec ones. I had the belts done last autumn and dephaser pulley. It's now got DS 2500 pads all round, Toyo R1-R tyres, braided lines, DOT 5.1 fluid, Brembo HC front discs and Scorpion cat back stainless exhaust. I've fine 15 trackdays and over 30,000 miles since buying the car. It's still in good condition and has plenty of life left. Well worth the money.
