Looking for the right Clio

Bloody well should be £5k.

Then you could buy a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth, that is still in depreciation, and needs money thrown at it.

Spell checker offered defecation as an alternative

£5,000? I asked via PM for offers around £4,000 which resulted in complete silence from the guy who was interested on here.

There’s plenty for sale at less money, it depends on what you want.

His loss, will probably buy a £1800 example and will discover it needs £2.5k spent on it to bring it half way up to scratch.

What I don`t understand is why people, who obviously derive great enjoyment, and have a pride in their cars, put so much time, effort & money into something

wouldn`t have caught my eye when new,

Agree.

Most is nostalgia -- the Wolsley for instance, Grand Ma probably had one or something.

The 2CV is quite an interesting car mechanically and, like original Fiat 500s, is worthy of being in any motor collection.

Otherwise I only get excited by cars that were innovative or best-of-breed at their time.

Also if you fancy a “Classic” car these days, all the good stuff is so expensive, so people are looking to cheaper options.
For instance if you want an old Cortina or Escort the early ones are silly money now.
So l am seeing more MK4/5 Cortinas and later Escorts at the car shows, some have been restored to perfection.
You could say that the money spent would have bought a more worthy vehicle, but it doesn’t tend to work that way round as restoration is often done over time.
There’s a guy in my car club bought a 1980 Cortina 1.6L as cheap classic and ended up making it better than new. He’s spent over £20,000 on it!!
