looking to buy a clio 172 or maybe 182

  n/a
hi guys, i'm new to this forum and new to renaults to be honest. Coming from the vag background. Now looking for a new daily car.

Just wrote of my mk3 golf 16v, which had 177hp 150fftlb it was quite naughty had a port and polished head, cams, re-cal done by amd. Also handled like it was on rails, with it being poly bushed all round, and rear anti roll bar
So really looking to replace it with something similar. Can't choose between a seat cupra, or 172/182.

how reliable are the clios?

what actually makes the difference in power between the 172 and 182?

cheers in advance!

Surely the best fun is to be had with cars that dont handle like on rails? Trains are boring, i like my cars to move around a bit.

As for 172 / 182. You can get cheap ones, but most are dogs. After looking for about 1 year now, i have come to the conclusion you need to spend 4k to buy a good car. Or what i classify as a good car anyway.

Because the interior of the seat is the worst in existence.

Go for the 172 Cup, £ per performance marker makes it the best, looks the best and cheaper to look after as no AC.

But no way will you need to pay that kind of dollar, I paid 3K for mine with 55K on the clock and full service, got knocked on the sale promising it was a Cup, it wasn't sued the dealer and was awarded £1500 in compensation and loss of enjoyment.

Good times to be had.

HAHAHAHA!! Thats genius.

I for one wouldnt advocate the 172 Cup. Yes its "supposed" to be faster and it loses about 90kg over standard but when youre sat northbound on the M5, 20 degrees outside 3 hours from anywhere you will be cursing yourself for uncomfortable seats and no AC for very little performance gain.

Personally I never use AC, and tbf If you want turinis it's better to buy the cup etc, it's cheaper to but a 192 interior or even an exclusive than the wheels and spoiler etc.

coming from a golf why not go for a cupra? A case of stick to what you know etc

I'm in two minds, the reasons mentioned above. Plus i've got to spend atleast a grand to get it handle like the clio, were as the clio is a great handling car out the box.

I do fancy a change from vag, although i've still got my mk2 golf 1.8t for kicks! so just looking for a cheapish daily, thats fun to drive and can do the odd track day

I would imagine you will get a very nice example for something between £3-3.5k, if you can stretch to a bit more, go for a Trophy for the epic seats. I paid £4500 for mine but it had FSH and only 39k, but that was 2 1/2 years ago now.

as its a daily, (and still in the process of finishing the mk2) looking to spend 1500-2000 on one.

still dunno what the difference between the 172 and 182, engine wise?
