looking to get rid of my 8L S3 and get a 182, what do i look for?

  Stealth 438'd 182
Hey guys!

i'm new to the forums and looking to buy a 182 after my S3

need something a tiny bit better on fuel and less to run than the beast!

so 182 it is :D

im going to have about 4.5k to spend.. after a black one...low milage

what things do i have to look out for to avoid picking up a sh1theap!

can anyone list me some common faults? all that jazz? stuff that i want to avoid :p

im not afraid to get the spanners out but i dont want a ticking time bomb :)

haha well the cars crippled me.. its running a brand new forged engine, new turbo, race ported head etc seeing about 270.. stick a decent fmic and map it and you'll see near 300 horse.. engines proof to 500 and could be made by a bigger turbo, injectors, fuel pump.. thats it.

which was my original plan..however.. been made redundant.. cant afford to run it let alone fund its mods..

and as if to really take the mickey the one thing that i havent replaced in the whole bloody car.. the flywheel went the other day..it shall be fixed.. or not depending if i can get someone to buy/swap as it is for cheaper..

so im after something a bit cheaper to run than the beast, still good performance + handling and affordable with it

and because i like 182's!

Have you ever driven a washing machine?

f**k off Kevin ;) x

Hi Rob, sorry to hear about the car issues on AS.net fella :( (JD09). Welcome to CS.

would i have to be a club member to advertise a swap?

Sign up, only £10 (although I think it has just risen to £12!) but well worth it for the mass of info on here in the subforums you can't currently see. Think of having Bill (Badger), Paul (Tuffty) and Welly but in electronic form!!!

It will also give you access to the sales sections where you could advertise a swap etc chap.

Yes you would, think you would be better getting it fixed and selling privately on pistonheads then having a bucket full of cash to buy the 182 you want or if you want something very similar but quicker get a 172 cup and spend the rest on mods

cheers jamie, yeah i'll have to get signed up, its definitely worth it, im a paid member on CCUK and if i do end up getting a clio sport then il be selling ashley exhausts on here anyway

good to see some familiar faces tho :)

Welcome mate!

I wouldn't go from an S3 to a 172 cup, the difference would be too enormous.

You'll get a nice 182 for £4,500. Main things you want to look out for
- cambelt and aux belt done (ideally at a specialist)
- dephaser pulley done too preferably
- FSH at a specialist
- gearbox, theyre always a little notch but not too much.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Pay for your membership, there's a BG (black gold) one for sale at the moment.

ive heard about this dephaser pulley how would i know if this is worn/going

i can always do the belt and aux myself but il look out for the boxes too

thanks man

Rob might be worth contacting Steve@Rsports on here. He buys and sells and does take part ex deals on. He's a real "Fixer upper" and might take on the S3 as a job, while selling you a ClioSport.

Personally unless you like the exhausts then don't rule out a 172 - especially if you plan on doing a few mods later on.

I personally hate the 182 exhausts! as you can tell :)

I kept the money I saved from buying a 182 and got a better 172 instead.

Ooh y'see I really like the zausts if I get a 182 il be developing a full system for it which will be of course cheaper to members ;)

Manifolds back :D

We'll see!

Il deffo get in contact and see if he is interested in a swap mine would be worth 7k easily to a dealer once fixed

You'll have a tough job on your hands!

Exhaust manifold wise, nothing has proven better than the 182 4-2-1 manifold, and cat back, the Clio sport range is well catered for, with yozzasport and BTB being the "holy grails"

Jesus christ at the 8l snobbery, yes it was/is a nice car.

Things to look for in a BG 182 >

  • Panel alignment, make sure its straight, anything un-toward will be noticeable by even someone with a squint that could bring a plane down
  • Service history, its essential, like any performance car, servicing every 12k by the book, most "enthusiasts" do oil changes 6k'ly
  • Cambelt and Auxilliary belt, should have been done on every single 182 including the 06 plate 182's
  • Generaly it should be well looked after, although they are cheap performance hatches to run, they still require attention like most things

aye.. CCUK thought that with their piper manifolds.. now the ashley ones seem to be one of the most popular on the forum :) !

noticed there are some ex CCUK members on here and Audi-Sport!

im going to be looking to design some with ashley exhausts :p rolling road'ed printouts etc etc main thing being il be able to supply them to forums at a cheaper price than the retail if i use my car to develop on too so watch this space!
