Loosing all power.

So the clio decides to f**k me about right when I don't want too .

Problem seems to have developed after driving through a puddle about 2ft deep. Although it did create quite a wave over the bonnet.

It idles fine and can perform as usual but then it just keeps loosing all power, more throttle just makes more noise and I have had to run in neutral a few times. Its almost like im holding my left foot on the brakes and then just letting go and it goes back to normal.

Any ideas on what to do guys?

Sounds electrical. If it's arcing out waters got in somwhere fella.

Right okay I took it out for half hour to see if I Can dry it out but its still pissing down so not much chance of that.

No warnings on the dials either.

Any specific electrics that could cause this too so I can take a look?

I guess a diagnostics would be no use really as well.

Just had a look under the bonnet checked everywhere for signs of water and it looks dry even in the fusebox on the right side of the engine bay.

Took it out and it performed fine for 15 minutes and then it started doing it again just bogs right down and the revs die.

Oh and the air filter is bone dry so I definitely didnt suck up water.

Check your plugs, HT Leads might have water in them

Had a look already mate and looks dry but shall get the inlet manifold off and have a proper look in a few days when I get the chance. Also all leads plugs and coilpack was changed in under 12 months so shouldn't have thought any of them was faulty.

Been doing a lot of searching on here and I am having a stab in the dark that it could be the pre cat lambda. It's almost as if there is a sudden delay of fuel and then it bounces into life. Had no issues idling whatsoever and most the time it performs exactly as normal but then all of a sudden it just gives up on all power pushing the throttle more just makes more noise like its trying but something is holding it back.

Was the water really that deep??? the lower part of the car completley in the water??

Yeah I would say it came up to the side skirts mate.

Hard to tell as my bumper is so low it pushed quite a bit of water up over the bonnet. Was in and out the other side within a matter of seconds so wasn't in it for long though.

It also seems that trying to accelerate is what provokes it too. If I climb speed very slowly it hasn't done it yet.

I'll be using it for the next few days if after that it's still doing it then I'll get the lambda changed. If that doesn't fix it then god knows.

Would have thought everything was dry now as the engine has been run for well over an hour since the dunk.

Could be the alternator has got wet.

Ah cheers that's something else to get checked then. Would someone just be able to put a voltmeter onto it?

Would it affect starting up or anything if it was the alternator? As that seems fine and I get no signs of any electrical loss.

I suppose you're fully booked up into the new year?

Nearly a full tank later and still no sign of it getting any better so I guess everything that got wet would be dry now.

Will be taking it to a garage tomorrow probably so i guess the best thing to do is diagnostics?

mate, what have you learnt from taking it to other people who aren't me? I'm not crazy busy in the new year

I'm just worried that It will start pissing me about on m1, could always go another way though I guess.

Hopefully mate, whoever you takes it to first, will have there own proper way of diagnosing, checking, testing, not just stabbing at any s**t as some do, costing you money.

Seems like it could be the water temperature sender. Or the wiring. This results in intermittent over-fuelling that can and will cause hesitation and misfiring.

Tis an easy check with Diagnostics that.... thats if they think of doing it!!!

Will be taking it to Dan if needs be but it seems to have stopped doing it now anyway :S.

Will keep that in mind if it come back though Roy and cheers Mike.
