Lost Car Key Help

Car  clio
Hi guys,

I managed to lose my car key for my Renault Clio and would greatly appreciate any advice on how to go about getting a replacement. I really do not want to end up paying through the nose if there is a cheaper alternative. I live in the Glasgow area so any recommendations on locksmiths etc would be fantastic. My car is currently in an 'unofficial' car park so need to take action quickly and hope it doesn't get towed. Eek!

Thanks a lot.

sorry to say this but should of got a key cut :dapprove: just get the locks changed its not that exspencive i had to do it with my old car when some1 tryed to break in to it. or just go back to the retailer.

It's a 1.2, 3 door, petrol, 1999 model.

Lisa, I don't have another key so assumed that I will need to get another key cut and get reprogramming done to activate the central locking etc.

Timpsons Autolocksmiths are quoting me £99 plus VAT for call out charge only. I know this is going to end up costing me a fortune - serves me right for my stupidity - but I still want to know what the cheapest route would be.

in a way would it not be safer to get the locks changed rather than getting just a new key, or are u getting new locks anyway?

Have not looked into any of this. I am a novice at this sort of thing so really don't know what to do. Look guys, talk to me like I'm stupid. :) :) :) I don't have a clue how to go about this. :) :)

Well. People are reccomending that you should get your locks changed just incase somebody finds your keys and gets in. Might happen.

Lock changes dont cost that much, theyre not cheap either, but if you get them changed i reccomend you go to the dealer. and not some randomer from ebay. for obvious reasons.

but roughly how much am I talking about price wise with all this? Surely it's not just a case of getting a new key and locks changed? Does the central locking facility and immobiliser not have to be reprogrammed also?

sorry gina! i know its expensive! but think your gonna have to go to renault! i didn't have a spare on my last clio! i lost my key once!! said i would get one! never did! (found them eventually)! i was looking at 150 for the new key and they set it up to your car!

Rachel, is that £150 for everything? I called Renault today and they quoted me £150 plus VAT. I did it explain it to the guy, but presumed that was only for the key etc and not towing/locks?
