Lots of white smoke

  STI JDM
Had my 172 for over a year now and haven't had a single problem with it so far. But just now driving home I noticed that when I put my foot down a little, there was quite a bit of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. When I got home I got my sister to just give it a little gas in the drive and sure enough, there were large clouds of white smoke coming out.

Temperature and oil levels seem to be ok. I've never noticed my car do this before. Is this just steam as it's quite nippy outside? Any ideas would be great thanks.

If you've not used it for a few days it could be water vapour as engine is hot and air is cold.

Alt... Pop the oil filler cap off - any mayo? I'm thinking possible blown head gaskett :(

Cool, no traces of crap in there. I haven't drove her for a few days so that might be my car's way of telling me she's unhappy :)

Chq the water , then run with the cap of the water bottle on the drive and see if you get bubbles coming up(sometimes you will need to leave the engine ticking over till hot) , then after the car is hot replace the water cap and drive to see if there is a massive build up of pressure in the water pipes ,

There is a lot of things this could be , at worst the head or head gasket.

Most head problems dont show untill the engine is at driveing temp.

  Focus RS, 182 gone
my 182 puffs a load of white smoke out and covers the back window with water when i boot it, if it hasnt been booted in a while, normal m8 that is, just water in the exhaust system

what azzer said^^^^^

In this weather the heat of your exhaust will cause condensation to form inside your exhaust which gets blown out as steam. plus if you only do short journeys or dont drive for a few days it can take a while for this condensation to get blown out.

Shorty
