Loud bang and drop in ride height

mad in general

Morning all,

When I was leaving for work the other day I heard a loud bang coming from the passenger side front end. I initially thought that this was some debris or a branch hitting the bodywork so got out to check. Nothing visible.

Yesterday I notice that the passenger side is sitting quite a bit lower at the front. The car feels solid when driving apart from over speed bumps when it knocks from the same area.

I have had a quick peek at the top mounts and they appear to be alright, Thinking I have a borked spring???

Any ideas what i should be looking for or any common problems that this sounds like?

Cheers

Dave

Cheers guys, will hopefully have a look tonight or tomorrow.

No garage so all work is done on the street.

Get a torch and have a look under the arch , a snapped spring should be pretty visible however use the other side as a reference as it may be harder to see a snap if close to the top of the spring. If its snapped , personally I wouldnt drive it much (if at all) until replaced .

I would avoid driving it. Happened to a couple of mates of mine and the snapped part of the spring was slowly eating through the inside tyre wall. One had a blow out at 50 coming onto a dual carriageway.

Definitely a snapped spring, happened to the dci yesterday when pulling on the drive, lucky as a few mins before i was on the motorway going at pace:dead:

As said though don't drive it until its sorted out.

I snapped 1/2 a coil at the top today (found the piece), how safe is it for a 30 minute drive to my favourite garage? Looks like it's sat OK... I won't be driving it other than to somewhere that can swap em though.

I want to keep the springs standard, but hear it's £200 for the front pair, should I go Eibach or GSF?

Heh, it's a 182 FF, Titanium if you wanted to know that too :P I'm in Warwick.

Here's how it's currently sitting... Has yellow and blue spots on it

I'll pay for membership tomorrow and have a looksie for some very local springs, can't keep the car grounded for long.

This happened to me the other week but instead of a snapped springs I managed to snap the strut clean in half, was driving just on a spring for about 10 miles :)

RSR182

I have found one today. Yellow and Blue paint.
Your car must be cup packed.
Not far from you if you want it.
